The Kröller-Müller Museum moves, amazes, and, with its unique location in De Hoge Veluwe National Park, brings together fundamental artistic and ecological values. With masterpieces by modern masters such as Monet, Seurat, and Mondrian, as the so-called second home of Vincent van Gogh, and featuring one of Europe’s largest sculpture gardens, the Kröller-Müller Museum is a highly renowned, financially sound top-tier museum both nationally and internationally, and a must-see for many visitors.
The Kröller-Müller Museum was born out of the life’s work of Helene Kröller-Müller. Her love for the work of Van Gogh and other modern masters grew into a magnificent collection. At the beginning of the last century, she and her husband acquired nearly 11,500 works of art, making her collection one of the largest private collections of the twentieth century. To this day, this collection remains the shining centerpiece of the Kröller-Müller Museum in the beautiful Veluwe region.
Each director who followed her has interpreted this ideal in their own way, allowing the Kröller-Müller Museum to evolve with the times. As a result, it has become a remarkable fusion of art, nature, and architecture—unique in the Netherlands, exceptional worldwide, and inspiring to this day.
Renovation In 1938, amid great national and international interest, the Kröller-Müller Museum opened its doors in an elegant “museum house” designed by architect Henry van de Velde, featuring small, intimate spaces and soft lighting that allow visitors to get up close to the art. In the 1970s, the museum was expanded with a new wing designed by architect Wim Quist. A major renovation and expansion is once again on the agenda for the coming years. With Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the focus is on a very significant expansion of organic exhibition space, resulting in a restoration of the original chronology and more room for displaying postwar art and works currently in storage. This renovation offers opportunities to reach a larger audience and achieve even greater visibility.
