Mental Health Caribbean (MHC) is a specialized mental health organization serving the Caribbean Netherlands and the wider Caribbean region. Since its founding in 2012, MHC has established a solid reputation and provides high-quality care to people of all ages. MHC offers a wide range of treatments, ranging from outpatient, clinic-based, and inpatient care to prevention and education. The organization strives not only to provide mental health care but also to contribute to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in the region and, above all, to have a positive impact on the lives of people in the Caribbean Netherlands.
MHC has made improving the quality of life for residents of the Caribbean Netherlands a central part of its mission. The organization strives to provide care that not only focuses on the client’s mental health but also takes into account other areas of life, such as work, housing, and finances. MHC believes in providing personalized care, treating each client as a unique individual. To this end, the organization works closely with partners in the healthcare chain and strives for an integrated approach that puts the client at the center.
MHC positions itself as a forward-thinking player in mental health care in the Caribbean Netherlands. The organization operates according to the F-ACT model (Flexible Assertive Community Treatment), in which a multidisciplinary team supports people with complex mental health issues in their own living environments. This approach enables MHC to provide flexible, tailored care based on trust and proximity. In doing so, MHC actively seeks collaboration with local and regional partners in the healthcare and social sectors. By forming alliances and sharing expertise, MHC contributes to a stronger healthcare infrastructure and an integrated approach to well-being and health in the region. Innovation, collaboration, and the continuous improvement of care quality thus form the core of the organization’s development.
The organization places great importance on core values such as providing outpatient care, which involves reaching out to clients in their own environment, and putting the client and his or her support system at the center of everything we do. MHC also believes in customization, passion, creativity, and perseverance as essential elements of its approach. MHC is committed not only to providing mental health care but also to strengthening the care infrastructure and collaboration in the region. MHC strives for effective collaboration with other organizations and aims to support them in developing a broader range of mental health care services. MHC serves in an advisory capacity and offers information, training, and case consultations to partners in the care chain to share their expertise.
As the only mental health organization in the Caribbean Netherlands, MHC plays a crucial role in the field. The organization is constantly working to strengthen its foundation, expand its expertise, and grow. MHC strives to be an organization that meets high quality standards, with dedicated staff and strong partnerships with clients and stakeholders.
At the same time, MHC’s governance is also focused on development. MHC’s Supervisory Board is currently undergoing a significant transition. Effective November 1, 2024, Kathelijne van den Boogert has been appointed as the new Executive Director. Subsequently, the previous Supervisory Board stepped down as of December 31, 2024, and Paul Rosenmöller was appointed interim chair as of January 1, 2025. His key task is to assemble a new Supervisory Board in close consultation with all stakeholders. The organization faces the challenge of forming a renewed Supervisory Board that aligns with its strategic ambitions and the further professionalization of the governance structure. As of May 1, Coryse Barendregt has been appointed as the future chair of the Supervisory Board. As the next step in forming a completely new Supervisory Board, we are seeking a member with substantive expertise in the field of mental health care, or broad experience within the healthcare sector.
