De Nieuwe Kerk | H'ART Museum is looking for
A member of the Supervisory Board with a financial background
De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum aims to make culture accessible to a wide audience. We believe it is important that our Board of Trustees reflects the diversity of our society. We therefore invite everyone to apply.
Due to the expiration of the terms of one of our two finance portfolio holders at De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum, a vacancy has opened for a board member with a financial background. Recently, the Boards of Trustees of De Nieuwe Kerk and H’ART Museum merged; therefore, there are two finance portfolio holders on the Board of Trustees. The vacancy that has now arisen is due to the departure of the finance portfolio holder from De Nieuwe Kerk. The new member, together with the other member with a financial background, will form the audit committee. Four times a year, prior to the regular meetings of the Supervisory Board, this committee discusses the financial status of both institutions with the executive director and reviews the annual financial statements with the auditor prior to their approval by the full Supervisory Board. When fully staffed, the Supervisory Board consists of seven members. The four foundations under its supervision each have a two-person board, consisting of a general director and a business director.
The Nieuwe Kerk is a historic landmark in the heart of the capital, right on Dam Square. We celebrate, gather, and commemorate through a wide range of events and exhibitions on urban themes such as Mokum, the history of Jewish Amsterdam, and Queer Amsterdam. On May 4, during the annual commemoration, the church plays a central role.
Over the next few years, H’ART Museum will be developing exhibitions and educational projects in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington. These include exhibitions on the life and work of Brancusi this year and Matisse in 2026.
De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum employs approximately 50 staff members and also works with temporary staff for educational activities, guided tours, visitor reception, and our museum shops. The foundations do not receive any regular subsidies. All activities are funded through ticket sales, rentals, sponsors, grants, private donors, and friends of the museum.
The financial expert brings an entrepreneurial perspective and experience in and with the financial sector to the Supervisory Board. He or she has in-depth knowledge of finance in a national and, preferably, international context and will be responsible for the financial oversight of the foundations’ assets and for ensuring their sound financial health.
In addition to general oversight of the foundations and their boards, the specific tasks are:
