Can you inspire your colleagues to prioritize safety? Do you have enough experience to drive innovation within the Brabant-Zuidoost Safety Region (VRBZO)? Can you motivate people, and do you have the courage to take risks? If so, this is the perfect job for you!

What We Do

The Netherlands has 25 safety regions. Safety regions are responsible for better protecting the residents of the Netherlands against disasters and crises. The Southeast Brabant Safety Region (VRBZO) is the safety region for Southeast Brabant. Within our organization, we work together to prevent, mitigate, and respond to incidents and disasters. We do this for and in collaboration with the 21 municipalities in our service area and with the people who live or stay here. VRBZO has 1,200 employees and consists of three sectors: Operations, Risk and Crisis Management, and Incident Response.

We are working toward the next step in our organization’s development. More than ever, we are joining forces with our network partners, businesses, institutions, and citizens. Our focus is shifting: from merely “managing” risks, providing assistance, and anticipating crises to restoring society to normal functioning as quickly as possible (ensuring societal continuity). We are increasingly facing different and protracted crises—consider COVID-19 or the reception of refugees.

The Sectors

For this next phase, we are looking to refresh our four-member management team with two new colleagues. We are currently seeking two new division heads for theIncident ResponseandOperationsdivisions, both of whom will serve on the management team. The Incident Response sector consists of two departments (Response and Preparedness) with 980 colleagues, 720 of whom are volunteers. The Operations sector consists of the Finance & Control, HRM, Communications, Administrative and Management Support, and Information Management & Automation departments. This sector has 70 colleagues.

Does this sound familiar to you?

We are looking for inspiring leaders who drive and sustain progress across sectors and foster connections between them. Under your leadership, we will work together in a coordinated manner. Our missionto ensure safetyaligns with your values. You identify with the organization’s core values: helpful, knowledgeable, decisive, and focused on collaboration.

  • You can motivate people to make a concrete contribution to safety.
  • You encourage people to work together and to seek connections outside the sector as well. You leverage the networking capabilities of the organization, its partners, and its services.
  • As mentioned, you’re bold and innovative. And you encourage these qualities in your employees as well.
  • You enjoy being part of change processes. You recognize that dialogue and reflection are key to achieving sustainable results in change processes.
  • You have a good understanding of the political and administrative landscape and the social developments that affect the security sector.

How you can contribute

As a member of the Management Team, you are responsible for developing strategic policy for the sector and providing policy advice to the safety region and the entire organization (integrated/collective). You are a member of the VRBZO Management Team, which also includes the Executive Director and the Head of Risk and Crisis Management.

  • You respond to social trends, new laws and regulations, and the views of supply chain partners, and translate these into improvements within the sector.
  • You will contribute to shaping VRBZO’s vision and coordinate the resulting sector policy with the management team, the other sectors, and the board member responsible for the portfolio.
  • You advise the director on developments that extend beyond your sector and on VRBZO’s strategic objectives.
  • You provide guidance and build support for organizational development, change processes, and policy implementation within the sector, as well as across sectors.
  • You will provide overall leadership for the sector and coordinate the effective and efficient implementation of the sector’s plans.
  • You maintain strong connections with your network, including other safety regions and other relevant partners.

What you can expect from us

Our culture is informal yet professional. You’ll be given a lot of autonomy. We encourage you to expand your knowledge, even beyond the scope of your role. You’ll work alongside great colleagues who are passionate about their work.

Being a member of the management team also means:

  • A dynamic work environment that offers you new opportunities every day to grow and innovate.
  • Working with helpful colleagues from whom you can learn a lot, but who are also eager to learn from you.
  • A good work-life balance, with flexible working hours and workspaces throughout the region. You’ll also be provided with the necessary equipment to work from home.
  • A large network of colleagues from other safety regions, as well as network partners.
  • A position in pay grade 15 with a maximum gross monthly salary of €7,977 (as of April 1, 2022) based on a 36-hour workweek (standard position: Sector Head A). Subject to satisfactory performance, advancement to pay grade 16 is possible over time.
  • An Individual Choice Budget equal to 17.05% of your annual salary, in addition to your regular pay. You can spend this as you see fit, within the available options.
