Singing touches the very heart of human existence. Anyone who listens attentively to choral music takes a moment to pause amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We want to share that experience, now and in the future. Laurens Vocaal offers you a variety of opportunities to contribute your own expertise—and, if desired, your administrative knowledge and experience—to this endeavor.
Due to resignations and expiring terms, there are openings for three new members on our Supervisory Board. In order to ensure a diverse membership that reflects society, we invite both experienced supervisors and inexperienced candidates to apply.
Laurens Vocaal enthusiastically and ambitiously takes you on a journey into the world of the most beautiful choral music. In a country seeking balance and shared values, we are charting a meaningful alternative course that touches people deeply. We are a cultural ANBI with roots in Rotterdam. Our organization is supported by dedicated volunteers, committed friends, a small professional staff, and a leadership team consisting of an executive director and an artistic director.
Laurens Vocaal has recently transitioned from an executive board model to a supervisory board model. As an organization, we have embarked on a new path, focused on reaching a broader audience and nurturing conducting talent. This new phase offers a wide range of opportunities for you to contribute to our continued development by leveraging your own expertise—potentially supplemented by administrative knowledge and experience.
To help drive the organization’s professionalization efforts alongside the management team, you’re willing to contribute ideas and work together to strengthen the organization. In return, if you’re an inexperienced board member, we’ll teach you what a supervisory role entails. We’ll support your professional development within the Board of Supervisors through training and guidance. Last but not least, you’ll have ample opportunity to attend Laurens Vocaal concerts.
The Supervisory Board exercises comprehensive oversight of the foundation and the management’s policies. Collectively, the members possess the expertise and qualities required for this supervisory role. In addition, the Supervisory Board provides the Executive Board with advice and support. The Supervisory Board meets approximately five times a year. The Supervisory Board is a collegial team that acts collectively in all essential aspects of its work. The Supervisory Board has two committees that prepare the work and advise the board: the Audit Committee and the Remuneration Committee. A good balance and convergence of diverse individual perspectives and experience broaden the collective insight, added value, and judgment of the Board as a team.
We are primarily looking for experienced supervisors, but there are also opportunities for those without experience. We are seeking supervisors with expertise and relevant skills in the following areas:
The composition of the Supervisory Board is selected in such a way that it meets the legal requirement of independence while also ensuring the desired mix of competencies within our supervisory body. As a general prerequisite, Laurens Vocaal strives for diversity within the Supervisory Board. This includes, among other things, a balanced gender distribution and representation across the various relevant age groups. The Supervisory Board may also take the cultural and ethnic background of potential candidates into consideration.
The position is unpaid and is therefore filled on a volunteer basis. The term of appointment is four years, with the possibility of a one-time four-year extension.
The full Supervisory Board will decide on the final appointments to fill the three vacancies, and the process will be concluded following introductory interviews between the selected candidates and the Executive Board, as well as the Chair and Secretary of the Supervisory Board.
