The Marnix Academy, an open learning community for skilled, committed, and passionate education professionals, is seeking three new members for its Board of Trustees. We are seeking board members with expertise in Finance, Operations, and Education & Research. General

The Marnix Academy is a specialized college focused on the training and continuing education of education professionals, supporting schools in their development, and conducting practice-oriented research. The Marnix Academy’s mission is closely linked to its identity: the college is an open Christian institution that aims to achieve coherence between philosophical, pedagogical, and educational principles. Competence, commitment, and enthusiasmare the core values that guide the Marnix Academy’s activities. To achieve its objectives, the Marnix Academy participates in partnerships with various colleges and universities in the Netherlands and abroad.

Our strategic plan for 2022–2028 focuses on connecting education, research, and professional practice. Together with the professional community, we are building a society centered on equal opportunity and sustainability. We encourage our students to continue developing into global citizens who make a difference. We do this based on our Protestant Christian roots, but we are open to diverse perspectives and place a high priority on inclusion. The Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board of the Marnix Academy is responsible for overseeing policy and general operations within the university. The board also provides advice and support to the Executive Board, with a focus on the quality of education, research, and knowledge transfer. In addition, the board acts as the employer for the members of the Executive Board.

The Supervisory Board operates in accordance with the Sector Code for Good Governance at Universities of Applied Sciences and is composed of members with diverse areas of expertise. The board strives for diversity in terms of age, gender, cultural background, expertise, and experience. The board consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of seven members, who collectively assess the broad outlines of policy. The members are independent and critical, and contribute to professional and ethical governance.

We are looking for three supervisors with the following areas of expertise:

Member of the Supervisory Board, Finance Profile

  • Extensive knowledge of financial management, including strategic budgeting, planning and control, and risk management
  • Experience with the funding of educational institutions and subsidy programs
  • Familiarity with the effective and sustainable use of educational resources.

Member of the Supervisory Board, Operations Profile

  • Extensive experience with strategic management processes, preferably in nonprofit organizations
  • Expertise in change management and digital transformation
  • Has a vision for future-proof and values-driven leadership within the academy.

Profile of a Member of the Supervisory Board: Education & Research

  • Expertise in education, with experience in educational innovation and practice-oriented research
  • Experience in positioning research within an educational institution and promoting knowledge transfer
  • A clear vision for education, driven by an intrinsic motivation to contribute to the development of education professionals and the training of future teachers.

The member responsible for Education & Research is appointed upon the recommendation of the MR.

At least one of the new members has a vision for identity-based education. At least one member has extensive supervisory experience.

General profile characteristics

Each member of the Supervisory Board must have management experience, strong strategic thinking skills, and an independent, critical mindset. In addition, each member must share the values and mission of the Marnix Academy. Specific characteristics of the members include:

  • Supporting the academy’s open Christian identity
  • Administrative and supervisory experience
  • Integrity, social responsibility, and a team-oriented approach
  • Willingness to invest time and energy in the supervisory role

Duties and Responsibilities

The Board of Trustees meets an average of six times a year. Board members are also asked to actively participate in committees, school visits, and an annual self-evaluation.

The Education & Research member serves on the Education Committee. The Finance and Operations members together form the Audit Committee. The members work closely with the Executive Board and the Employee Participation Council to realize the mission and vision of the Marnix Academy. Transparency, collaboration, and independence are core values within the council.

Compensation

The remuneration for members of the Supervisory Board is approximately €8,000 per year, in accordance with the guidelines for the (semi-)public sector and the Code of Good Governance.
