We are seeking a Head of Exhibitions and Education for our two cultural institutions in the heart of the capital. In the coming years, H’ART Museum will be developing exhibitions in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the Smithsonian in Washington. At De Nieuwe Kerk, we are placing increasing emphasis on the church as a historic monument and are preparing the exhibitions “Mokum,” the history of Jewish Amsterdam, and “Queer Amsterdam.” Education—as one of our primary goals—is an integral part of all these plans.
De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum aims to make culture accessible to a wide audience. We believe it is important that our workplace reflects the diversity of our society. We therefore invite everyone to apply, and when candidates are equally qualified, we give preference to those who help make our workplace more diverse and inclusive.
You are a strategic thinker with a keen eye for opportunities. You are looking for a role in which you can apply your (leadership) experience in the cultural sector at a museum with international partners and a church that is a landmark of the capital. Together with your team, you will play a major role in achieving our organization’s goals and ambitions. We are looking for a colleague who will help shape the direction and content of our work and serve as the face and voice of the team both within and outside the organization.
As Head of Exhibitions and Education, you will lead the Exhibitions and Education team, ensuring that you establish inspiring, results-oriented agreements with staff, oversee the planning of exhibitions, and create the conditions necessary to achieve and monitor the organization’s goals, both in terms of content and finances.
You play a crucial role in the project organization and its rollout. You help employees and the team as a whole excel. With your innovative perspective, you analyze internal and external developments and translate them into long-term plans.
You place a high priority on education and ensure that it is integrated into all projects as part of our mission and vision. You have ideas on how to consistently integrate education into exhibition themes and how to develop programs for educational institutions and a broad audience. In doing so, you maintain a focus on sustainability and diversity.
In your role, you serve as a unifying force. You maintain an extensive network of both internal and external stakeholders and ensure alignment on both substantive and practical matters across different organizational units.
As team leader, you will participate in the biweekly meetings with the Executive Team, where you will provide advice and contribute to policy discussions. The Managing Director is your supervisor.
Your vision for exhibitions, education, and project-based work forms a cornerstone of the strategic plan you are developing for the future of museum operations at De Nieuwe Kerk and H'ART Museum.
In addition to managing your team, you are responsible for providing tactical advice and shaping policy within your team. You set the direction and translate policy into concrete actions, while constantly considering the long-term impact of decisions.
You understand better than anyone how important connection is. Whether within your team or with numerous external partners at home and abroad, you are an experienced, reliable representative and sounding board who ensures that collaboration runs smoothly. You have a keen sense of relationships and diplomacy. You possess a natural curiosity about your colleagues and have the ability to recognize and harness talent.
We’re eager to hear your unique perspective on museum innovation and learn about your ambition to further the story of De Nieuwe Kerk and H’ART Museum.
