More about this organization
Aerial view of the Drents Museum in Assen, featuring historic buildings, green gardens, and modern architecture in an urban setting.

The Drents Museum offers a glimpse of the world and gives the world a glimpse of Drenthe. Through stories about archaeology, art, and history, we inspire people of all ages.

Can you combine vision, creativity, and project management skills to create a compelling presentation? Do you lead the project team in an inspiring and clear manner? Do you have a knack for both design and finance? Are you good at working with strong-willed people who want the very best for our visitors? Can you stick to a tight schedule while still thinking outside the box?

The Terracotta Army, treasures from Iran, paintings from America, Italy, and Mexico, as well as the art and history of our own collection, including world-famous bog bodies such as the Girl from Yde and paintings by Vincent van Gogh. Of course, we also highlight the history of Drenthe with local icons and stories, such as those of singer Harry “Cuby” Muskee (“Window of My Eyes”), the celebrated TT racer Egbert Streuer, and soon the history of the Moluccans in Drenthe. We recently opened our spectacular Bar Brasserie Pingo, already hailed by many as the most beautiful museum café in the Netherlands. The museum has big ambitions. We are currently working on a spectacular new collection presentation. It will be a true experience: a stimulating, multi-sensory, theatrical experience with a touch of magic. History, archaeology, and art will be combined into one grand, cohesive narrative about humanity. In the coming years, the new collection presentation will play a major role, and we will therefore place people (both creators and the public) at the center. We aim to welcome a wide variety of visitors and provide them with a wonderful experience. And you can contribute to that experience!

We are looking fora Head of Presentations
for 32 hours per week

What will you be doing?

You will ensure compliance with the guiding principles of the overall exhibition program and policy. However, you will not have a substantive role in this regard. You will serve as chair of the exhibition committee. You will also be responsible for the implementation of all exhibitions, both temporary and permanent. Artistic input in the areas of design and aesthetics is required. As a process manager and organizer, you will oversee the process from the finalization of the concept through to its realization and evaluation. You will manage the project team (including the technical department). You will prepare the budgets, manage the budget, and monitor the schedule. You will consult with external project leaders, (guest) curators, security, designers, etc.

What do we expect from you?

You have a clear vision for exhibitions in relation to our museum’s strategy. You are an experienced project manager with a track record of organizing exhibitions in a museum setting, and you are well-informed about international trends in the exhibition field. As an enthusiastic professional, you possess project management skills and extensive experience in managing budgets and schedules. You are the linchpin who possesses diplomacy and persuasiveness and excels at collaboration. There are ample examples of your experience with concept development and your vision for the development of public-facing products. You have a flair for styling and design, are a true team player, and have an eye for the latest presentation techniques. You also possess knowledge of lighting, climate control, and security. We expect you to switch quickly between abstract and practical matters. You move and speak with ease at all levels. You are skilled at the art of negotiation. Your education and experience align with the duties described.

What do we have to offer you?

An inspiring work environment at an ambitious museum. A role that gives you room to be creative, with enthusiastic colleagues who are eager to share their knowledge with you and learn from you. This is initially a one-year position, for 32 hours per week. Depending on circumstances, this may be followed by a contract extension or a permanent contract. The salary depends on age and experience (between €3,200 and €4,738 gross per month for 36 hours) and the benefits package is certainly attractive. The museum adheres to the Museum Collective Labor Agreement.
