Role As Head of Marketing & Communications at Theater Rotterdam, you will be responsible for developing long-term marketing plans, formulating a marketing vision, and translating that vision into strategies for positioning and audience outreach, both internally and externally. You are positioned at the right level to make an impact because you are part of the management team. This means you share responsibility for the organization’s overall policy. Also on your agenda:

  • Connecting the artistic vision with the audience and fostering interaction;
  • You are responsible for the budget and prepare annual budgets;
  • You will develop new marketing strategies for the sector that stem from the convergence of production, presentation, and talent development;
  • You will initiate and facilitate partnerships in the area of marketing and media campaigns with our in-house creative and production teams;
  • You maintain (inter)national contact with other partner institutions and key local organizations;
  • You will further develop the target audience strategy, which is rooted in a strategic yet highly flexible marketing approach;
  • You will organize work, assign tasks and responsibilities, and monitor the progress of all ongoing campaigns;
  • You are responsible for the digital infrastructure of platforms and the systems required for this, as well as for optimizing it;
  • You will develop and strengthen the Marketing & Communications team and lead the change process;
  • You will work with department heads and senior management to promote inclusivity and diversity;
  • You will develop clear procedures and oversee their implementation;
  • You provide the most up-to-date information on retail markets and consumer behavior.

The Marketing & Communications Department at
is home to an enthusiastic and dynamic team of about 13 employees, freelancers, and interns, each with their own area of expertise. At the helm is you, the Marketing & Communications Manager. The department works daily to connect people with Theater Rotterdam, is responsible for telling Theater Rotterdam’s brand story, and for promoting and communicating about performances, in-house productions, concerts, and festivals. You are also the direct supervisor of the Ticketing & Service department. This team consists of 12 employees and is functionally managed by a Coordinator.


Your Profile

  • At least a college-level standard of work and thinking;
  • You have preferably completed a degree in Marketing or Communication;
  • Approximately five years of relevant and managerial work experience;
  • You lead in an inspiring and motivating way: you are a team builder and a strong communicator;
  • You have experience developing and implementing a strategic marketing and communications plan;
  • Your expertise covers a wide range of areas, from brand strategy to digital hospitality, and from content strategy to data marketing;
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English;

Job Opening A position at an innovative theater organization featuring exciting and talented artists, with approximately 500 performances annually in Rotterdam, national and international tours of our own productions, guest programming, festivals, and in-depth programs. In addition, you’ll be rewarded with:

  • A gross monthly salary of €5,437 (Collective Bargaining Agreement for Theater and Dance);
  • A full-time position of 38 hours per week (40 hours including 12 compensatory time off days);
  • 27 vacation days and 12 ADV days;
  • A one-year appointment with the possibility of a permanent contract;
  • A workspace in the heart of the city, in the Witte de Withkwartier and on Schouwburgplein.
