The Marketing & Communications Group consists of the Brand, Insights, Digital, Corporate Communications & PR, and Events departments. This Group is responsible for the Van Gogh Museum’s marketing and communications in the broadest sense. To this end, it focuses on all stakeholders, both in person and online. We have a challenging leadership position available on our management team:Head of the Marketing & Communications Group (MT member),full-time (36 hours).
What will you be doing?
As Head of Group Marketing & Communications, you will make a significant contribution to the goals and ambitions of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Mesdag Collection in The Hague. As a marketing strategist, you will represent our values and lead the team of professionals working in marketing and communications. In this role, you will report directly to the Executive Director. You will work in an energetic and collaborative environment, with the following duties and responsibilities:
- Based on the organization’s 2025–2028 strategy, you will determine the strategic direction and multi-year plan for your Group.
- You will manage the three department heads of the Brand, Digital, and Corporate Communications & PR departments, as well as the team leader of the Events team. In addition, you will directly manage the Insights department, which consists of three employees. This department focuses on marketing data analysis, audience insights, and CRM. Indirectly, you will oversee 30 employees.
- You lead with conviction and clear communication, thereby strengthening the museum’s position for the long term.
- With a data-driven, inclusive approach, you will continue to develop the marketing and communications strategy.
- You are responsible for monitoring and optimizing processes and efficiency within your Group.
- You will prepare the budget and monitor it in consultation with management.
- You think in terms of opportunities and ensure that decisions and concrete actions lead to results and lessons learned. You keep a close eye on how everyone works together.
- You will represent the Van Gogh Museum and the Mesdag Collection within your professional field, network, and to the press.
- You are able to work well with the other members of the management team so that you can achieve success together. In doing so, you help foster a connection between the Marketing & Communications Group and the rest of the organization.

Who are you?

- College or university level of work and thinking.
- Extensive relevant experience in a similar role in the field of marketing and communications, where you have established strategic direction, worked with KPIs, and managed a team directly or indirectly.

The Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement applies. The full-time salary (36 hours) ranges from €5,437 to a maximum of €8,269 gross per month (scale 15), depending on your education and experience. In addition, we offer the following benefits:
