More about this organization
Close-up of two ballet dancers with a concentrated look, focusing on their faces and expressive eyes.

Scapino is a place where creativity, innovation, and collaboration come together. Not just on stage, but in everything we do. With ambitious plans for international expansion and collaborations with renowned partners, we are entering a new phase. It’s an inspiring time to join our company—we’ll tell you more about itin this video.

We are therefore looking for a Head of Finance for our administrative department who shares this ambition and wants to further strengthen Scapino’s financial foundation.

Scapino Ballet Rotterdam is one of the Netherlands’ leading dance companies and Rotterdam’s premier city dance company. Since 1945, we have been demonstrating how dance can move, amaze, and inspire. Our productions are bold, multidisciplinary, and often accompanied by live music. We use art as a force for change and do not shy away from social issues.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that Scapino’s financial records are complete, accurate, and up to date. You will combine hands-on execution with providing strategic advice to the board and management, and you will serve as a key strategic partner within a growing, international organization.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the finance department (finance manager + 1 accountant) and assigning and scheduling daily tasks.
  • Ensuring the accurate processing of all financial transactions (accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash/bank) and overseeing payroll administration (handled by an administrative service provider).
  • Preparing and monitoring production and annual budgets, monthly and quarterly reports, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Preparing the annual financial statements and balance sheet (in collaboration with our accounting firm) and assisting with reviews and audits.
  • Identifying risks and trends in costs, cash flows, and returns, and providing both solicited and unsolicited advice on these matters to the executive board and management team.
  • Optimizing administrative processes and managing financial applications (including Exact Online, Visionplanner, and Blue10) as well as the event management application Yesplan.
  • Setting up and managing digital file structures (server and cloud environments such as SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive) and ensuring compliance with archiving, access control, and GDPR guidelines.
  • Initiating improvement initiatives in the areas of digitization, process optimization, and data-driven reporting, in line with the ambitions of a pioneering and resilient organization.

You will report directly to the CEO and advise the management team.

Who are you?

You are an experienced finance professional who looks beyond the numbers. You work with precision and reliability, but you also see the bigger picture: what do these numbers mean for our organization, our people, and our plans? You feel right at home in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. You switch effortlessly between day-to-day operations and strategic discussions, contribute your own ideas, and take the initiative when needed. Through your expertise and commitment, you help shape the future of Scapino.

You should also bring

  • HBO+ level of education and intellectual ability, preferably in business economics, finance & control, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in an independent financial role (experience in the cultural or project-based sector is a plus).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into clear, understandable reports and recommendations.
  • Experience with digitization, application management, and process improvement; you find satisfaction in systems that are efficient and logically organized.
  • An independent, proactive work ethic and the ability to set priorities within limited resources.
  • Coaching skills in managing colleagues and a passion for collaborating with various departments (production, HR, marketing, development, engineering).
  • A dedicated, sociable person with strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • An interest in dance and theater, and a willingness to attend performances or evening events from time to time.

What do we offer?

  • An independent role at the heart of an inspiring, international, and creative organization
  • Plenty of opportunities to apply your expertise to help Scapino become more professional, embrace digital transformation, and grow
  • An employment contract for 0.5–0.6 FTE (20–24 hours per week), with a starting salary in pay scale 8 of the Collective Labor Agreement for Theater and Dance (€3,670–€5,350); the final pay grade will be determined based on knowledge and experience
  • As many as 42 days of leave per year (on a full-time basis)
  • A fixed-amount year-end bonus
  • A one-year employment contract, with the possibility of a permanent position
  • A workplace right in the heart of Rotterdam, in the Witte de With district, at a company that values a work environment where all colleagues take pride in their work and enjoy what they do
