Eye Film Museum

Eye is the only film museum in the Netherlands and a custodian, pioneer, and guide in the world of film and the art of the moving image. The museum manages an international collection of more than 60,000 films, programs screenings in five theaters, and produces leading exhibitions on film and visual arts. Eye showcases film in all its diversity and, in collaboration with the film industry, promotes Dutch film both domestically and internationally. Through educational programs and its streaming platform, Eye Film Player, Eye fosters an understanding of and appreciation for film, in partnership with the education sector and the film industry.

Eye Film Museum is currently looking for a

Head of Development

a passionate storyteller who builds lasting connections between Eye’s friends and partners—both current and potential—and the film museum’s content, and helps foster broad support

36 hours per week (1 FTE)

About the department

The Development Department builds lasting relationships with committed individuals, companies, and foundations, which together make a significant contribution to Eye’s public support base and financial foundation—in addition to the regular subsidies Eye receives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science under the Heritage Act. The department works to develop these (international) partnerships and to translate programs and activities into compelling cases for support that align with the interests and priorities of our valued partners.

About the role

As Head of Development, you will develop a forward-looking vision and strategy to bring Eye’s stories to life—in a way that moves, inspires, and connects. You will contribute to the continued growth and strengthening of Eye, in line with our core values: open, welcoming, curious, creating, and sharing. In this way, you will ensure a sustainable and broad base of support for Eye—both now and in the future—as an internationally renowned film museum and knowledge institute. You will work closely with the management team and report to the Public Sector Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic advice to the executive board and management team on fundraising and relationship development;
  • designing and implementing a long-term strategy with concrete initiatives, cases for support, and partnerships that contribute to Eye’s mission and vision;
  • monitoring and reporting on results, such as retention, campaigns, and offers;
  • build lasting (international) relationships with donors, companies, and foundations to create new fundraising opportunities;
  • leading the Development team and fostering an inspiring and results-oriented work environment;
  • collaborate with other departments to ensure an integrated and consistent approach to external relations.

Your profile

  • You have strong interpersonal skills and know how to proactively and creatively build relationships and new networks;
  • You have an interest in film, visual arts, and/or the museum world;
  • You have extensive experience in fundraising, corporate partnerships, and relationship management in the cultural sector;
  • You bring new, diverse, and relevant networks, preferably including international ones;
  • You write compelling strategic plans and proposals;
  • You have leadership experience and know how to inspire and coach a team;
  • You have excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

Eye is an open, informal, and collaborative organization in the dynamic neighborhood of Amsterdam-Noord, with two locations: the iconic museum building on the IJ, which features a popular restaurant, and the Collection Center, where visitors can explore Eye’s collection. Eye aims to be an attractive and accessible place for everyone who loves film, regardless of race, religious background, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability. The museum therefore invites anyone who wishes to contribute to the diversity of the film museum to respond.

We offer

A challenging position in an inspiring work environment at a fantastic location in Amsterdam, with enthusiastic colleagues. You can take a friend to the movies for free, visit exhibitions, enjoy discounted drinks at the restaurant, or shop at the Eye Shop. You can also take advantage of the work-from-home policy and the Bike Plan.

This is a 36-hour-per-week position for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension. The salary is in accordance with the museum collective bargaining agreement, at pay grade 12: a minimum of €4,379 and a maximum of €6,056 gross per month based on 36 hours, excluding 8% vacation pay and 3.4% year-end bonus.
