We are looking for a:

Head of Cultural Activities (32 hours per week)

The field

There are hundreds of cultural organizations in The Hague. These include dance, music, and theater instructors, theater and music associations, and cultural organizers. CultuurSchakel supports all of these organizations in The Hague. For example, by providing grants, offering advice on artistic, content-related, and business matters, or connecting organizations with one another.

We help people in The Hague find leisure activities in areas such as dance, music, media, visual arts, theater, and literature. We also provide information on what’s happening, where you can take classes, or where you can attend performances.

Through our BinnenBuiten program, we are working to develop a demand-driven cultural offering in local neighborhoods. Our goal is to provide children ages 8 to 12 with as many opportunities as possible to engage with art and culture and develop their talents—not only during school hours, but especially in their free time and within their own neighborhoods.

About the team

The team consists of approximately 8–10 people, including advisors, a project coordinator, and support staff. The grant office is also part of your department. The team is diverse, and each member has their own expertise and area of focus. Your role is to lead the department, implement and execute policies, activity plans, and projects. You are a member of the management team and thus share responsibility for keeping the organization running smoothly and for policy development. You will put CultuurSchakel on the map in the city by maintaining a large network and widely promoting what we do.

Here's what you'll be doing:

In this role, you will leverage the strengths of the Cultural Activities Department and serve as a member of the management team.

• You will lead the department and provide clear guidelines
• You have an eye for your employees' talents and know how to bring out the best in them
• You have a coaching and collaborative leadership style.
• As a member of the management team, you contribute to the organization’s policy development
• You oversee the big picture and keep an eye on the financial parameters
• You will build and maintain internal and external relationships, thereby raising CultuurSchakel’s profile even further

In short, you are the one who inspires, guides, and sets the direction for the Cultural Practice team, and represents the organization both internally and externally.

• Extensive experience in collaborative leadership of a diverse team of independent professionals
• An excellent networker with a knack for building relationships
• Someone with demonstrable knowledge of the cultural sector
• Someone who is capable of acting based on vision and substance
• Someone with a vision for diversity and inclusion who translates this into clear actions and professional conduct

In addition, our ideal candidate is:

• Someone with an interest in cultural activities in their free time
• Someone who sees opportunities and is open to initiatives and ideas from the team and the field
• Someone who lives in or near The Hague

• A one-year employment contract with the possibility of renewal and the prospect of a permanent position
• Salary grade 11 or 12 under the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Arts Education, depending on age and experience.
