Head of Communications (f/m/x) - WOMEN Inc. (32–38 hours)

WOMEN Inc. is seeking an inspiring team manager with extensive experience in marketing and communications, starting in February 2024.

About WOMEN Inc.

WOMEN Inc. is an advocacy organization with approximately 28 employees that has been accelerating women’s empowerment in the Netherlands since 2005. We strive for a society with equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender or sex. Gender inequality is most pronounced in the areas of Finance, Work, Health, and Media. To bring about change in these areas, we conduct research, campaign among the public and in the political arena, share our knowledge, and organize meetings and workshops to expand opportunities for women. We do this in collaboration with our network of partners—ranging from national to local governments, businesses, organizations, and research institutions—to make a difference at all levels of society.

Emma Lok assumed the role of Executive Director on September 1, 2023. She will lead the organization into its next phase of growth and thereby increase its social impact. A management team is currently being assembled with new roles to shape the future of the organization. Within the management team, the Head of Communications is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating WOMEN Inc.’s marketing and communications policy. In addition, this person serves as coach and team leader of the communications team.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced communications strategist who can translate our mission and the objectives of our 2020–2030 Theory of Change into a focused communications strategy (including positioning) to increase our social impact. Someone who keeps up with new marketing and communication trends and turns them into innovative and creative ideas to advance our mission and raise awareness among various target groups (politicians, government officials, employers, the general public, and specific groups of women).

Are you an inspiring and strategic communications team manager who thrives on leading and coaching communications professionals? Are you able to motivate, develop, and bring people together? If this sounds like you, we warmly invite you to apply.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating WOMEN Inc.’s communication strategy and policy, in line with WOMEN Inc.’s mission and organizational goals. You will also be responsible for translating this strategy into (innovative) communication activities, in collaboration with the communication team members. You will provide inspiring leadership to the communications team and drive the achievement of the team’s operational, policy, financial, and personnel objectives. You will support the various communications professionals in their personal and professional development, thereby professionalizing the communications “accelerator.” You will be part of the management team, led by the Executive Director, to whom you will also report.

The ideal candidate possesses the following qualities:

  • Has experience developing and implementing communication strategies and policies (experience in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors is a plus);
  • Has at least 5 years of work experience in various communications roles (e.g., online marketing, social media, public campaigns)
  • Has experience managing external marketing and communications agencies (including advertising agencies and digital agencies)
  • Has demonstrable experience in managing and coaching (communications) professionals;
  • Is knowledgeable about recent developments in the field of (online) marketing and communication and has innovative and creative ideas;
  • Strategic thinking skills, the ability to identify opportunities and risks, and the ability to align them with WOMEN Inc.’s goals;
  • Has experience holding management-level responsibilities and being part of a management team that collectively sets the direction for the organization;
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • HBO/university-level work and thinking skills.
  • In addition, you have a strong affinity for:
  • The mission and themes of WOMEN Inc., as well as related social issues, partners, target groups, and networks;
  • WOMEN Inc.'s core values: Taking initiative to make an impact, open communication, and professional growth.

When?

Starting in February 2024

What do we offer?

  • A temporary employment contract for 32 to 38 hours perweek for a periodof 12 months, with the possibility of extension;
  • A salary ranging from €4,039 to a maximum of €6,123 gross per month based on full-time employment (38 hours), depending on your experience in this role;
  • An inspiring office environment in Amsterdam's Houthavens;
  • An informal work environment with passionate colleagues, a shared social mission, and unique projects that make a difference;
  • A competitive pension plan;
