The legacy of the women’s movements and women’s liberation is more relevant than ever. Nearly 90 years later, we at Atria—a team of about 25 dedicated colleagues—are working to manage, create, and make accessible knowledge about gender equality, women’s movements, and women’s liberation.
Together, we are working toward our goal of further developing Atria as a knowledge institute and taking the next step in making our research and collections accessible. But we’re not quite there yet; we are currently seeking a Head of Collections & Research/Deputy Director.
If you’re interested in a challenging role in a dynamic environment and you think you’re a good fit for the job description, we’d love to hear from you. Call or email us for more information, or apply now!
Atria collects and manages resources on gender equality, women’s movements, and women’s empowerment, making them accessible to the academic community and society at large. Through research in both national and international contexts, Atria promotes the advancement of knowledge and thereby contributes to the empowerment of women in all their diversity. Our focus on the specific interactions between different groups in society is what makes our collection distinctive and unique.
Atria collects materials to enable academia and society to preserve information and generate new knowledge about the history of women, gender relations, women’s movements, and emancipation. The archives contain the primary sources of Dutch women’s movements. The library and databases provide a broad national and international context for these sources. Together, they form a unified whole in which the constituent parts reinforce, enrich, and deepen one another.
We have ambitious plans to better anticipate the evolving needs of researchers in the coming years and to implement digital solutions that allow users to explore the materials in our collection from various perspectives. As Head of Collections and Research, you will be responsible for the ongoing development and management of these activities.
In addition to this ambition, there is an interesting challenge in the area of housing and decisions regarding management, storage, and service provision.
As a manager leading a change process, you must be able to switch flexibly between contributing to strategic planning and overseeing operational implementation. You are responsible for managing the 18 employees in the Collections and Research department. In this role, you are mindful of your responsibility as a cultural ambassador and actively contribute to a safe and inclusive work environment and a human resources policy that fosters growth and development.
As a member of the Management Team, you will help develop and implement strategic plans and translate them into departmental plans. You will report on and evaluate the results of collection management, service delivery, and research. Building and maintaining a strong professional network is part of the role, as is maintaining contacts with Atria’s relevant external partner organizations. You will represent us at conferences, meetings, and within professional networks. As Deputy Director, you will assist and support the Executive Director in internal and external matters.
You’re a heritage enthusiast through and through, and your motto is No documents, no history by one of our founders, Rosa Manus, is music to your ears. You are a strong, energetic, and enterprising individual with excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style. You hold a master’s degree in social sciences, history, gender studies, or a related field. You have demonstrable knowledge of collection management and scholarly research, as well as at least 5 years of work experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
We offer a dynamic work environment and an enthusiastic and friendly team. The position is a 32–36-hour-per-week contract for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension. You will receive a salary in accordance with Scale 13 of the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, ranging from €4,537 to €7,234 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek, depending on your knowledge and experience. This includes an Individual Choice Budget, 8.11% vacation pay, a thirteenth-month bonus of 8.96%, and reimbursement of your travel expenses. You will accrue pension benefits through the Healthcare and Welfare Pension Fund. With the Career Budget of 1.5% of your annual salary, you can take a course, training, or educational program to further your professional development.
The application period closes on August 30, 2024, or earlier if we find a suitable candidate. Are you interested and do you think you qualify for the position? Please send your application via email to solliciteren@atria.nl. Please send us your resume and a response of no more than 500 words to the following question: How can our collections and research reinforce each other, and how can you contribute to that?
