We are currently seeking a Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) for the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK).

You will establish and lead the AHK’s newest department, dedicated to promoting educational innovation, faculty development, and knowledge sharing through digitization and professionalization. You will contribute to achieving the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan 2024–2029. This Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is currently the only one of its kind in the Netherlands within the field of arts education.

What will you be doing? You will:

  • Defines the CTL’s strategy and builds an accessible, visible, and sustainable knowledge and networking hub that connects educational innovation, professional development, and knowledge sharing.
  • Leads program managers and staff at the CTL and facilitates collaboration within the Amsterdam University of the Arts and the national arts and education sector.
  • Works with the Education Department, the Research Center, and the research groups to align educational innovation and practice-oriented research with the Strategic Agenda.
  • Advises the board and academic departments on faculty development, educational innovation, and knowledge sharing, and implements the CTL plan within the budget and grant conditions of DUS-I/Npuls.
  • Leads the CTL program team of six faculty members, oversees educational innovation projects, and fosters collaboration and co-creation among faculty members and program directors from various disciplines.
  • Fosters an open, safe, and inquisitive work culture that embraces diversity, experimentation, failure, growth, and artistic identity, tailored to the learning needs of colleagues.

What are you bringing?

As head of the Centre for Teaching and Learning, you will bring together faculty and researchers within the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) to foster innovation in arts education and research and create synergy. You are a unifying leader who speaks the language of both artistic practice and education and moves seamlessly between vision and practice. You:

  • Has experience in higher education and understands faculty development, learning environments, curriculum development, and quality culture.
  • Drives change in complex organizations thanks to experience in leadership, budget management, and accountability procedures.
  • Promotes co-creation, community building, and a learning- and research-oriented practice within the academies.
  • Sees digitization as a means to achieve accessible, creative, and inclusive education, not as an end in itself.
  • Cherishes diversity in perspectives, traditions, and teaching practices, and values both craftsmanship and imagination in art education.
  • Communicates openly, empathetically, and in an inviting manner; is able to engage people in the change process; and builds lasting networks both within and outside the AHK.
