An event at the Drents Museum is an inspiring experience that stimulates “all” the senses. The museum is a premier venue for events in the northern Netherlands, offering significant economic benefits for Assen and the surrounding area. In recent years, Events has organized a number of wonderful events, the highlights of which have been the openings of the exhibitions Sprezzatura, The American Dream, Viva la Frida!, Under the Spell of Araratand Menyala - The Extraordinary History of the Moluccans in Drenthe. Other events include participation in Art Rocks, the Friends Lottery Open Days, public activities as part of the exhibitions’ supporting programs, and business meetings.
Events is part of the Marketing and Communications team, which strengthens internal collaboration. You will also work with the Partnerships, Education, and Food and Beverage (Bar Brasserie Pingo) teams to organize events. The Marketing, Communications, and Events team is constantly developing innovative events and packages that align with the museum’s programming and mission.
With us, you’ll be responsible for virtually the entire event process! You’ll conceive, develop, and organize public and client-focused events such as major exhibition openings, the Friends Lottery Open Days, Family Days, and numerous special activities organized throughout the year in conjunction with the exhibitions.
You discuss every detail with the client, finalize the proposal, secure confirmation, handle scheduling, communicate with suppliers and relevant colleagues, oversee the event’s execution, and finally conduct the evaluation. Together with your colleagues, you ensure an unforgettable experience. You’ll also manage the organization-wide event calendar. You’ll coordinate with everyone inside and outside the museum who wants to celebrate an occasion in one of our special venues. Sometimes that’s a huge puzzle, so you’ll need to be able to make tough decisions.
We are the Drents Museum in Assen, known for our major, high-profile international exhibitions on archaeology and art. But we also surprise visitors with hidden gems from Drenthe’s history and art. On average, we attract 200,000 visitors a year, thanks in large part to our dynamic public campaigns. Last November, we opened exhibitions on Pompeii and the world-renowned German artist Neo Rauch. And now we’re focusing on the history of the Moluccans in Drenthe. The museum has big ambitions. We’re currently working on the spectacular new collection presentation Labyrinthia, preparing the major Van Gogh exhibition “Traveling with Vincent,” and gearing up for a large-scale renovation. Many visitors already call our super-attractive Bar Brasserie Pingo the most beautiful museum café in the Netherlands. The events and activities we develop for the exhibitions and beyond generate a lot of buzz! This is how we aim to provide all our visitors with a wonderful experience. And you can contribute to that experience!
First and foremost, significant experience organizing events for a variety of audiences. But also enthusiasm, energy, a love of parties, creativity, and strong negotiation skills. And the courage to take charge of all activities taking place in and around the museum, as well as the insight to further streamline their organization.
You have strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English. Ideally, you have experience with SEM (Smart Event Manager). You also hold a driver’s license. And, as is often the case with events, your hours may range from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but sometimes they may not be fixed at all. So you need to be flexible.
A unique workplace with enthusiastic colleagues: you’ll be part of a supportive and dynamic team with colleagues who are eager to roll up their sleeves and get to work alongside you. You’ll initially be offered a one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position after that year. We follow the Museum Collective Labor Agreement, which offers attractive employment conditions. The salary ranges from €2,963 to €3,763 gross per month for a 36-hour workweek. You will also receive an Individual Choice Budget of 13.84% per year (vacation pay, year-end bonus, and extra leave), which you can use however you like: cash out, save, exchange for a bicycle, buy extra leave, etc. There is an option for partial remote work, and we offer a travel allowance. You will also be provided with a laptop and phone, and you can shop at a discount in the Museum Shop and enjoy a drink or meal at Pingo. You can take out a tax-advantaged gym membership with WorkIt through the museum.
