
The editorial team of Buitenhof, the live political interview and discussion program produced by VPRO, BNNVARA, and AVROTROS, is currently seeking a:Senior Editor forBuitenhof (36 hours)
The Buitenhof editorial team consists of three hosts, an online editor, four editors (one of whom specializes in politics in The Hague), an editor-in-chief, a consultant, a producer, and a director. Together, we produce the weekly Buitenhof broadcast every Sunday morning.
As editor-in-chief, you will lead this dedicated editorial team, ensuring that the editorial staff maintain high journalistic standards and fostering collaboration within the team. As editor-in-chief, you will have ultimate responsibility for the quality of the program. To this end, we expect the following:
Each week, you’ll work with the editorial team and the presenters to put together the broadcast, using your knowledge and journalistic experience to provide vision and direction for the final script. Guided by your journalistic compass, you are able to come up with new angles on high-profile political and social developments every week. With your inclusive view of our society and your creativity, you produce engaging interviews that resonate with a discerning audience.
As editor-in-chief, you will have final responsibility for the editorial decisions regarding the weekly broadcast and will oversee the cross-media strategy. You will identify opportunities to further establish Buitenhof across various platforms, building on its reputation as a leading television program. To this end, you will have a well-defined vision for how Buitenhof can evolve online.
Together with the producer, you will implement the established personnel policy. You are responsible for the professional development of your team members and for motivating them to bring out the best in themselves. You have leadership experience and the interpersonal skills needed to ensure that everyone involved in the program works well together, and to inspire and motivate them.
Drawing on your expertise, you will work with the editorial team to develop the strategic policy for the program across all platforms where Buitenhof is present, and you will work with the producer to manage the available program budget. You have a clear vision of how Buitenhof can appeal to a younger and more diverse audience.
You report to the VPRO editorial board, which acts as the coordinating body for Buitenhof on behalf of the participating broadcasters.
Depending on age and work experience, the salary ranges from €4,354.86 to a maximum of €7,576.42 gross per month for a 36-hour workweek.
A one-year contract with VPRO, with the intention of extending it if performance is satisfactory;
The start date is to be determined, preferably as soon as possible;
Other terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for broadcasting personnel, including an 8% vacation allowance and a 6% December bonus.
This is a full-time position spread over 5 workdays.
Due to the Sunday broadcast, the regular workweek runs from Wednesday through Sunday.
