Dealmaker (3 times) Regio Deals Program

Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK)

Job Description

Imagine being able to improve the quality of life, housing, and work in regions across our beautiful country. Imagine fostering partnerships that strengthen the region’s potential. Imagine sharing your knowledge and inspiration with regions in an engaging way, empowering them to take the lead in finding solutions to their own challenges.

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is looking for 3 Dealmakers for various regions. If you want to make a difference in your region, read on!

The government has allocated 900 million euros for new regional deals. Based on their own unique stories, identities, and opportunities, regions submit proposals to the national government. The Regional Deals program team strives to stay in tune with the pulse of each area, listen closely to local and regional concerns, and then work collaboratively and adaptively to address these challenges.

We are looking for three dealmakers with strong communication skills for the Western, Central, and Eastern Netherlands regions, who will participate in the Regio Deals program within the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) over the next two years. Together with other ministries, organizations, municipalities, provinces, educational institutions, resident initiatives, and businesses in the region, you will turn the region’s chosen commitment to strengthening Broad Prosperity into tangible results. This is a complex assignment in which you will collaborate with many stakeholders on specific challenges in the region that are of personal importance to many people.

In the role of dealmaker, you will be in constant contact with other ministries responsible for specific topics within Regional Deals that have already been concluded or are yet to be concluded in your region. In consultation with the region and your colleagues at the national level, you will promote and monitor the progress of the Regional Deal. Or, in the case of a new application, following a positive cabinet decision, you will work with the region and your colleagues at the national level toward a covenant in which the new deal is finalized.

You will work as part of a team within the ministry, alongside colleagues from the “Regions on the Border” program and the National Program for Quality of Life and Safety.

Job Requirements

As a Dealmaker, you will contribute to the successful implementation of several of the 30 existing Regional Deals (from the first three tranches), the development of 14 new deals (from the fourth tranche), and the establishment of even more new Regional Deals in the tranches scheduled for 2023 (fifth tranche) and 2024 (sixth tranche).

  • You identify opportunities for innovative breakthroughs and build new inter-agency partnerships;
  • You will coordinate multiple complex projects or deals simultaneously (preparation, management, and execution); Sometimes you will take the lead on a deal and monitor the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK)/national agenda, and sometimes another party will do so, such as a municipality or another ministry. You know how to take the next steps in consultation with the region and the national government. You strike a balance between letting the region take the lead while simultaneously steering toward priority themes set by the national government.
  • You tailor products, services, and initiatives to the relevant context and ensure results;
  • You serve as a liaison between local governments, partners, and the federal government;
  • You will work closely with the relevant departments, as well as political and administrative leadership. This also means that you will occasionally prepare for a House of Representatives debate or, for example, respond to parliamentary questions;
  • You provide advice on proposals for improving and revising policies;
  • When developing policies and providing advice, you take into account political, social, and organizational issues as well as feasibility (social impact, pace, scalability, etc.);
  • You have a good sense of what’s going on in the regions and can provide guidance or make adjustments as needed, even if you don’t have direct managerial responsibility.
  • You can put yourself in the shoes of various partners and switch effortlessly between departments, local and regional governments (such as municipalities, provinces, and water boards), research institutions, and private partners, both in terms of content and process;
  • You are results-oriented and value building relationships with people;
  • You have a keen sense of political and administrative issues and are skilled at balancing competing interests;
  • If projects or negotiations aren't going smoothly, you know how to get things back on track;
  • You have experience with complex social initiatives involving various policy areas and levels of government;

With the ICB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment benefits. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on tax-friendly purposes.
