Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland is a city cultural center that serves as a gathering place where people can come together to enjoy theater, visual arts, architecture, workshops, food, and drinks. Our iconic building is located right on the Weerwater, in the heart of Almere Stad, and is visited by approximately 200,000 culture lovers each year. Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland has three main areas of focus:
Our organization helps build a creative community in Almere by enabling residents to experience the broad spectrum of art and culture in a welcoming, inspiring, and unifying way. At Kunstlinie, we connect the various components and constantly seek to create synergy among them. We showcase art across the board, in the broadest sense of the word. This enables us to develop new products and services. Kunstlinie encourages both children and adults to discover their motivations and to dare to trust in their own resilience. Our mission is inclusive: we want everyone, young or old, to experience that they matter and that they are seen and heard just as they are. This initiative came from the program team, because if you want to promote something, you must also live up to it yourself.
Starting in 2021, Kunstlinie will be part of the Almere Basic Cultural Infrastructure. This means that the organization has secured a basic subsidy for the coming years. While this provides peace of mind, it also comes with a responsibility. The organization must continually demonstrate its value within Almere’s cultural landscape. Kunstlinie has a turnover of approximately €10 million. About 150 people work across its various divisions, of whom about forty are salaried employees and the rest are on flexible contracts.
We are looking for an ambitious Controller. We are seeking a candidate who is ready to take on greater responsibility and play an active role in a broad management position. The position is currently being filled on an interim basis.
The Controller is responsible for the organization’s financial operations and serves as a substantive advisor to the Board of Directors and the Management Team. This role covers the following key areas: financial justification of the multi-year plan, advisory services, and planning & control. As a member of the Management Team, you will add value to Kunstlinie’s strategic policy by effectively linking financial data to strategy and operational objectives. The Head of Financial Affairs (FZ) oversees the setup and execution of the financial administration together with two administrative staff members. The Controller provides functional leadership to the FZ team and reports to the Director. You advise the Director and the Board of Supervisors on financial strategy. You ensure they are fully informed about the organization’s financial position and (grant) projects by providing solicited and unsolicited advice and reports, particularly regarding financial risks.
We are looking for a colleague who enjoys working in a small team across various areas and levels. Someone with a strong personality who knows how to persuade and can lead a team of professionals through change, thereby contributing to professional business operations within Kunstlinie. Together with the Business Manager, the Controller develops a multi-year financial strategy focused on the organization’s continuity and connects stakeholders to elevate management information to a higher level. Due to the broad range of services (Performances, Exhibitions, Events, Workshops, and Hospitality), there are various types of activities, each with its own dynamics in terms of management and accountability.
You express diversity in your own way, from both an ecological and a social perspective—for example, by fostering positive interactions with the local community where you work. You assess and monitor operations, evaluate activities, and propose improvements. In short, this is a role that involves both strategic and hands-on responsibilities.
Kunstlinie offers an inspiring and pleasant work environment within a dynamic organization where you will collaborate with full-time colleagues and a flexible pool of freelance contractors. We offer flexibility regarding remote work, with a focus on giving and taking responsibility. We offer a position of 32–36 hours per week with a gross monthly salary ranging from 4,200 to 6,100, depending on experience. In addition, we offer travel allowance, vacation pay, and a year-end bonus. An Individual Choice Budget (ICB) allows you to tailor your employment conditions to your personal wishes and needs.
Kunstlinie is being assisted in this process by the recruitment and selection firm Colourful People. For more information, please contact Özkan Gölpinar, a partner at Colourful People, at o.golpinar@colourfulpeople.nl or by phone at 06-55106789. You can express your interest by submitting your cover letter and resume by April 3. Following a preliminary screening based on motivation and resume, two rounds of interviews with the selection committee will take place in the evening during week 16. The goal is to have the new Business Controller start as soon as possible. In the event of equal qualifications, preference will be given to the candidate who enhances diversity within the team.
