We are actively seeking a new team member to join our dynamic business development team at Max Foundation. If you are an enthusiastic and dedicated fundraiser with at least 5 years of experience in the NGO sector, particularly with a background in international development fundraising (foundations and institutional donors), we want to hear from you!

About Max Foundation

Max Foundation is a thriving international nonprofit organization (NGO) dedicated to giving every child a healthy start in life. With an annual program budget of €4.5 million and 58 full-time employees, our headquarters is located in Amsterdam. Our work benefits 3 million people and reaches vulnerable communities worldwide, with a current focus on Bangladesh and Ethiopia, and plans to expand further into sub-Saharan Africa, specifically Burundi.

The Way We Work

Our programs serve as a "design lab," developing and scaling innovative solutions in safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), nutrition, food security, and maternal health, all with the ultimate goal of improving child health. We support entrepreneurs in playing a key role in providing solutions to the complex challenges faced by children, their families, and their communities. Using evidence and lessons learned from our integrated solutions, we influence the development sector and governments to apply them on a broader scale, tackling problems from multiple angles.

Business Development at Max Foundation

As a growing and successful organization, Max Foundation is seeking a passionate individual to help us expand. While we are currently funded primarily by Dutch institutional and foundation donors, we aim to diversify our donor base to include other institutional donors and foundations, while maintaining strong relationships with our existing donors. We need someone with a deep passion for our mission, experience in the sector, and the ability to connect us with these funding sources.

You will be an integral part of the Max Foundation’s business development team. Working collaboratively, we will develop program and fundraising strategies for both the short and long term. You will share responsibility for implementing these strategies, thereby securing funding from foundations and institutional donors. In this role, you will build strong relationships with partners and identify opportunities for the Max Foundation to mobilize resources.

Tasks and Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Identify, effectively respond to, and secure funding opportunities.
  • Write funding and grant applications, as well as reports for donors.
  • Represent the Max Foundation to donors and local and international partners.
  • Manage relationships with existing partners and leverage those relationships to achieve greater collective impact.
  • Build a strong network with relevant international and Dutch foundations and government agencies.
  • Identify trends and opportunities in the fundraising market.
  • Develop new strategic initiatives based on (inter)national partnerships.

Profile

You will need to be able to combine a talent for building relationships with excellent networking skills and the ability to turn plans into action (Thinking, Sharing, and Acting)

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in international development and institutional and foundation fundraising.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent level of education.
  • You are fluent in English and Dutch at a professional level (both spoken and written).
  • Persuasive, with strong communication skills, capable of inspiring and managing stakeholders, and representing the interests of the Max Foundation.
  • You are a self-starter and proactive, taking on projects head-on and determined to achieve your goals.
  • Motivated by launching fundraising initiatives; creative, driven, and decisive.
  • Skilled at carefully managing the process involved in your tasks, results-oriented, able to handle stress, and flexible.
  • Strong analytical skills, a natural aptitude for research, writing, and generating revenue through the development of creative proposals.
  • Eager to grow in your role and make a difference within the organization.
  • Intercultural sensitivity and integrity are important

The role may require occasional international travel.
