Will you be the new board secretary of Cultuur Academy (m/f/x)?

Cultuur Academy supports cultural professionals in Arnhem, Nijmegen, and the surrounding region by offering tailored programs, such as workshops, training sessions, and longer-term learning pathways. We believe that investing in the education and professional development of cultural professionals leads to a stronger sector. We focus on the non-artistic aspects of working in the cultural sector, specifically in the areas of business, organizational management, leadership, and organizational development.

Cultuur Academy is actively building a network where asking questions and sharing knowledge are the norm, with the goal of strengthening individuals, organizations, and the sector as a whole. Connecting and meeting are at the heart of what we do. Cultuur Academy is the go-to place for cultural professionals in the Arnhem/Nijmegen region to pursue their professional development.

Here's what you'll be doing:

As secretary, you are committed to our mission and passionate about it. You will become part of a five-member board. We adhere to the Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Diversity & Inclusion Code. We are looking for someone who can use their talents to contribute to a board culture in which all voices from the Arnhem/Nijmegen region are heard and valued.

As a board member at Cultuur Academy, you’ll play a supervisory role. Together with the other board members, you’ll closely monitor whether our policies and programs align with our mission and vision. Your input will help ensure that Cultuur Academy can better meet the professional development needs of a diverse group of cultural professionals.

With the board:

  • You meet six evenings a year.
  • provide the director with advice when necessary.
  • You’ll visit the Cultuur Academy team and check out their activities a few times a year.

As secretary, your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that processes and procedures within the Cultuur Academy’s administration are carried out with due care.
  • Ensure that actions are taken in accordance with the board’s obligations.
  • Contributing ideas on the diversity of our programs, participants, and partners.
  • You will be responsible for reporting and will oversee the external minute-taker. This means you won’t have to take the minutes yourself. You serve as the board’s memory and ensure that tasks and agreements are not left unaddressed, but are carried out carefully and as agreed.

About you_

  • You have experience in carefully organizing and streamlining processes (including experience gained through volunteer work, your studies, or personal experiences).
  • You are familiar with the cultural sector and the issues it faces, with a particular affinity for the creative side (for example, as an artist, teacher, or social worker).
  • You have an understanding of diverse cultures and a broad network. Getting to know others comes naturally to you.
  • You have strong communication skills, can ask probing questions, and are not afraid to engage in conversations that may get a little heated, without losing sight of the other person’s perspective.

_ Do any of the points above sound familiar to you? If so, we’d love to meet you!

What do you get in return?

  • This position is unpaid, but expenses will be reimbursed
  • You can participate in workshops and training sessions.
  • Tea and cookies at the meetings.
  • An even larger network and dynamic social experiences.
  • Board Secretary on your resume!

We strive for diversity on our board because working in a diverse team makes us more innovative and creative. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for everyone and are working hard to achieve this.
