Featuring countless artists from around the world each year, Music Meeting has, since its founding in 1985, provided a stage for musicians who have rarely or never performed in the Netherlands, presenting new projects or unique lineups. The Nijmegen festival is deeply rooted in the local community and is recognized nationally and internationally by music enthusiasts, the media, and the music industry—and, above all, by the musicians themselves. Music Meeting Festival takes place annually in Park Brakkenstein during the Pentecost weekend, and will return to the city center of Nijmegen starting in 2026.
With multi-year support from the Performing Arts Fund and the City of Nijmegen for the period 2025–2028, the festival is on the cusp of a new phase: In the coming years, Music Meeting aims to invest more in its program and audience reach while reducing production costs. To that end, the festival will (re)locate to the city center in 2026 and make use of existing venues and locations. In doing so, it will seek strong partnerships and new revenue models.
The current board members will be stepping down in phases over the coming year after serving one or two terms. Music Meeting is therefore seeking several new board members to work with the management team to help bring about the festival’s transition and move to the city.
The Music Meeting board sets the foundation’s policy. Policy preparation and implementation tasks are delegated to the director or executive director. She works closely with an artistic director. Together, they lead a programming, marketing, and production team. The board bears ultimate formal responsibility: it sets frameworks, evaluates, and oversees. As a board member, you contribute to shaping artistic and business policy. You also help determine how the organization interacts with people, resources, and the environment in a healthy, safe, and sustainable manner, both now and in the future. Key areas of focus for the board include appointing the artistic and business director, audience reach, marketing, sponsorship, and finances. The Music Meeting Foundation endorses the Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Cultural Diversity Code.
According to the bylaws, the foundation’s board consists of three to five members. The Music Meeting Foundation strives for a board composition that is as diverse as possible in terms of professional qualities and expertise, gender, age, and (socio)cultural background. The following roles are currently defined within the board; these positions will all become vacant starting at the end of 2024 and throughout 2025:
Board members are appointed for a three-year term. We ask that all board members bring a fresh perspective and share an affinity with Music Meeting’s vision and objectives. Additionally:
We are looking for people who are good at building connections and are socially engaged, who are eager to contribute to Music Meeting and are available for about four to six hours a month for (online) meetings, (live) themed sessions, and brainstorming with the management team.
No salary, but travel expenses are covered, and you’ll enjoy working in the international music and festival sector. This is a challenging opportunity to help a leading international festival navigate its transition, working alongside a dedicated board and an ambitious management team. Music Meeting has a tradition of innovation and opens doors to a diverse international network. Naturally, the board is welcome to attend all of Music Meeting’s magical musical encounters.
If you are interested, please send a (brief) letter of interest, along with your resume, by Friday, December 13, to the current board chair, Pieter van Ree, at seeyou@musicmeeting.nl, with the subject line “board member vacancy.” Pieter is available to answer questions on behalf of the board at 0652382333. Upon request, we can share the 2025–2028 multi-year plan. The selection process is being handled by a delegation of the board and management. Interviews with selected candidates are scheduled for Thursday, December 19, in the afternoon and evening.
