Wikimedia Netherlands is part of the global Wikimedia movement. The movement’s flagship project is Wikipedia—but there’s much more going on: this volunteer-driven movement is dedicated to promoting free knowledge.

For more than a decade, Wikimedia Netherlands has been a sought-after partner for museums, libraries, research institutions, and higher education institutions that want to share their knowledge and collections with the world.

Wikimedia Netherlands supports volunteers who edit Wikipedia in the Netherlands or contribute to free knowledge in other ways.

Visitour website or ourassociation wiki to get an idea of how we’re working in the Netherlands to ensure free access to knowledge for everyone.

Wikimedia Netherlands is a nonprofit organization. At the Wikimedia Netherlands office in Utrecht, a team of five people works on project development, communications, fundraising, and events. Most of the work within our organization is done by volunteers. We are looking for

Board members

The current board of Wikimedia Netherlands consists of five members. As a board, we work closely with the executive director to develop our annual plans and our multi-year strategy (available on ourassociation wiki). In addition to our role within the Dutch Wikimedia community, we collaborate with our international sister organizations in Europe and around the world.

The board meets about seven times a year and serves on a volunteer basis.

Our meetings are held partly online and partly in person at our office on Mariaplaats in Utrecht.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for two new board members with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Fundraising
  2. Communications/Marketing
  3. Finance

The term of office is two years and would begin after our General Meeting in June. Since the board currently has a number of experienced members, we consider experience less important than strong motivation and a belief in our mission. Wikimedia Netherlands aims to promote cultural diversity in the broadest sense. We therefore explicitly call on people with a non-European-Dutch cultural background to express their interest.

Interested in applying, or do you know a good candidate? Please contact Jan-Bart de Vreede (jan-bart@wikimedia.nl) or Director Sandra Rientjes at 0631786379.

Interested? Please send your cover letter and resume to the board secretary (secretaris@wikimedia.nl) by May 19 at the latest.

Recruitment agencies are asked to refrain from contacting us regarding this job opening.
