WIJ de Venen is a forward-thinking primary education organization with schools located in the heart of the Green Heart, comprising thirteen schools in village centers with diverse educational approaches in the municipalities of Kaag en Braassem, Nieuwkoop, and Alphen aan de Rijn. We believe in the power of learning and developing together and operate under the mission “Better Together – For GOOD Education.” GOOD stands for growing, developing, experiencing, and sharing, and forms the core of our educational vision. Our schools offer children an environment where they are seen and heard, develop broadly, and discover their talents. This requires strong leadership that allows room for the schools’ individuality as well as a shared direction.
The current director has moved on to a new career opportunity; the position is currently being filled on an interim basis.
Who are we looking for?
The new director of WIJ de Venen is a unifying and strategic leader who is capable of providing direction in a dynamic environment. You navigate smoothly among various stakeholders, build trust, and know how to move the organization forward with enthusiasm and decisiveness.
Core competencies:
- Unifying and inspiring leadership: you bring people together, continue to build a strong and engaged team, and foster a professional and development-oriented culture within the organization.
- Strategic and decisive: you see the big picture, make forward-looking decisions, and translate vision into concrete actions. In doing so, you carefully weigh the consequences and take responsibility.
- Financial and business acumen: You have a strong interest in finance and ensure the efficient allocation of resources. You establish clear frameworks for sound business operations and effective partnerships with external parties.
- Organizationally savvy and adaptable: you understand the formal and informal structures within the organization and navigate them effectively, keeping the interests of all stakeholders in mind.
- A proactive and outward-looking networker: you actively seek connections with municipalities, partnerships, childcare providers, and other community organizations, and help build a strong presence for WIJ de Venen in the region.
Your experience and background
We are looking for a candidate with a clear vision of inclusive education and its organization. Ideally, you have relevant experience, whether in the education sector itself or in an education-related setting. In addition, experience with regional administrative collaboration and an understanding of municipal processes are a plus. Knowledge of facilities and real estate processes within the education sector or a social context is also valuable.
Candidates who are accustomed to working in a network organization with a similar governance structure have an advantage. Experience as a board member is desirable, but a strong leadership background in education can also serve as a solid foundation. It is important that you foster a culture of learning and contribute with energy and vision to the established course and strategy, as well as the further development of WIJ de Venen.
What do we offer?

- Work in an ambitious organization with short lines of communication and passionate professionals.
