Do you ensure effective firefighting operations?

Why we can't do without you

Do you have the ambition to take firefighting operations to the next level and contribute to delivering outstanding fire services? Do you enjoy working collaboratively within your team and actively seek to connect with other departments? Do you have leadership experience, strategic and tactical business acumen, and proven management experience? Then we’re looking for you!

What We Do

The Southeast Brabant Safety Region (VRBZO) is committed to ensuring the safety of residents in the Southeast Brabant region, which comprises 21 municipalities. In close collaboration with the municipalities and other partners, we work together to prevent, mitigate, and respond to incidents, disasters, and crises. VRBZO is composed of three sectors: Incident Response, Risk and Crisis Management, and Operations. The Repression Department, part of the Incident Response sector, consists of 7 Repression and Operational Support team leaders, 2 advisors, 4 professional stations with 115 professional staff members, including shift supervisors, and 33 volunteer stations with 630 volunteers and station chiefs. Large-scale fire department operations, including its operations center, officers, and senior officers, also fall under the Repression Department. Together, they respond to an average of 5,000 incidents annually. In line with our vision, we strive to further strengthen collaboration, first and foremost with our colleagues in the Preparedness Department. In this role, you will play a crucial part in fostering this collaboration.

As a Safety Region, we are on the verge of developing a new regional policy plan. In a region characterized both by the highest risk of wildfires and by a significant expansion of urban areas during a dynamic era, this is a unique undertaking. We are developing our new policy plan in collaboration with our administrators, and together we are seeking the answer to the question of what kind of Safety Region is appropriate for this region.

What is our vision?

VRBZO strives to be a future-proof organization that actively contributes to “Safety First.” We work together to reduce the number of incidents, casualties, and damage. As Head of the Law Enforcement Division, you play a crucial role in the ongoing development of our Safety Region.

How you contribute to public safety as part of the Law Enforcement Division

As Head of the Repression Department, you will lead the department and translate the Incident Response sector’s policy into a concrete approach for your department. Together with the Head of the Preparation Department and the sector head, you will form the management team of the Incident Response sector. You will be responsible for your department’s performance and the well-being of your staff, and you will take the lead in collaborating with other departments. You contribute to the development of VRBZO’s strategic objectives and translate these into concrete goals for your department by monitoring internal and external developments and setting the right course. As a connecting link, you instill confidence in your team, communicate transparently, and foster a healthy work culture. You encourage both personal and team development so that your department can function optimally and contribute to the organization’s objectives.

What we expect from you

Our visionof “ensuring safety”resonates with you, and you fully identify with our organization’s core values: helpful, knowledgeable, decisive, and focused on collaboration. You also have knowledge of or an affinity for the firefighting service and are willing to serve on call. Your leadership style is transparent and confident, keeping you close to your team of team leaders and advisors so they feel supported. You provide direction and frameworks and stay the course, yet remain flexible and inspiring when it comes to necessary transformations. As a leader, you thrive on complex challenges and possess both business acumen and experience with administrative processes. You are able to communicate effectively at various levels and have an approachable and accessible demeanor. You are willing to invest in lasting relationships and understand that building these relationships takes time and sometimes requires being available outside regular office hours. In short, you take your people on a journey and facilitate new collaboration.

What you can expect from us

At VRBZO, professionalism is our top priority within an informal culture. You’ll be given plenty of autonomy and the freedom to use your creative ideas to help the organization move forward. You’ll work alongside passionate colleagues who dedicate themselves every day with full energy to their work and to realizing our vision.

As Head of the Law Enforcement Division, you’ll not only have the opportunity to apply your professional expertise, but also to continue developing yourself every day in a dynamic work environment that constantly presents new challenges. We ensure an excellent work-life balance, with flexible working hours and the option to work at various locations throughout the region. In addition, we provide you with the necessary tools to work from home, so you can optimally balance your work and personal life.

You will be offered a one-year probationary contract, with the prospect of a permanent position. Your salary can reach up to €7,539 per month (scale 13), depending on your experience and background. At VRBZO, we offer you the opportunity for further professional development and financial growth within pay scale 14. In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (ICB) equal to 17.05% of your annual salary, which you can spend as you wish. This gives you the freedom to structure your compensation in a way that best suits you.
