More about this organization
A smiling woman with curly hair in a creative workspace, with colorful artwork in the background.

Vivell is a comprehensive community organization serving Amsterdam Zuidoost and the surrounding area. We support residents by providing information, advice, and activities that contribute to their personal growth and community involvement. Our work focuses on children, youth, and adults and takes place in neighborhood and youth centers, as well as other locations throughout the district.

Amsterdam Zuidoost is no ordinary district in Amsterdam. It is a district with character. With more than 90 nationalities, a young population, a deep-rooted sense of community, and a cultural energy you won’t find anywhere else, children here grow up in a culturally diverse environment, navigating opportunities and vulnerabilities, and balancing strong neighborhood pride with real social pressures.

Vivell operates right in the heart of Southeast Amsterdam. Not just from an office, but in schools, youth centers, and on the streets. We know the neighborhood, the families, and the dynamics. And we know that you can only truly make a difference here if you understand what’s going on—not on paper, but on the ground. The Children’s Services team consists of 20 professionals who work daily with children from infancy through elementary school age. The drop-in playgroup for parents and children ages 0 to 4 is more than just an activity.

It is a place where parents in Southeast Amsterdam come together, where language barriers are broken down, and where trust is built. That trust isn’t built in a day. At schools and in our youth centers, we support children through activities that connect with their everyday lives. Resolving conflicts, working together, expressing yourself. These are skills that are particularly relevant in Southeast Amsterdam, because the social context here is both demanding and multifaceted. Parent engagement isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s the backbone of effective youth work in this neighborhood.

Children's Ministry Team Leader

(32 hours per week)

As the Children’s Services Team Leader, you provide direction for this team. You serve as the liaison, the coach, and the guardian of quality. You understand the complexities of Southeast Amsterdam and translate that understanding into an approach that works. You work closely with the Youth Services and Adult Services Team Leaders and act as a sounding board for the Welfare Manager.

What will you be doing?

  • You will lead the Children's Services team and be responsible for the quality and continuity of services in Southeast.
  • You will guide and coach employees in their professional development, keeping in mind the unique demands of working with the people in this neighborhood.
  • You organize team meetings that really work: focused on collaboration, reflection, and results.
  • You will be responsible for recruiting, selecting, and onboarding new colleagues who are a good fit for Zuidoost.
  • You will actively contribute to policy development and quality improvement, tailored to the realities of the neighborhood.
  • You build and maintain networks in Southeast Amsterdam. You know which organizations are active in the area and where collaboration can add value.
  • You are the point of contact for the City of Amsterdam and the Zuidoost district for all matters related to children's services.

What do you bring to the table?

  • A degree from a university of applied sciences or a research university in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrable work experience with children in an urban, community-based setting.
  • Leadership experience. You know how to bring a diverse team together, motivate them, and keep them focused.
  • Cultural sensitivity that doesn’t stem from training, but from a genuine interest in people and their backgrounds. In Southeast Amsterdam, that’s just the starting point, not the end goal.
  • Knowledge of Amsterdam Zuidoost and its community resources. Or the determination to quickly acquire that knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills. You switch effortlessly between team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and municipal meetings.
  • You are proactive, analytical, and able to handle pressure. Zuidoost expects that from you.
  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).

What do we offer you?

  • An independent role with plenty of room for your own input, in an inspiring work environment with great colleagues.
  • You will be part of a team of fellow team leaders for Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Adult Ministry.
  • The position is classified in pay grade 10 of the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement. Depending on education and experience, the salary is up to €6,321 gross per month for full-time employment (36 hours per week).
  • A one-year contract with the possibility of renewal.
  • Excellent pension accrual.
  • Various benefits under the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, including a flexible spending account of 16.3% (including vacation pay) and a career development budget.

We look forward to hearing from you! Please submit your cover letter and resume by April 30, 2026, via our website.
