Vivell is a comprehensive community organization serving Amsterdam Zuidoost and the surrounding area. We support residents by providing information, advice, and activities that contribute to their personal growth and community involvement. Our work focuses on children, youth, and adults and takes place in neighborhood and youth centers, as well as other locations throughout the district.
Amsterdam Zuidoost is no ordinary district in Amsterdam. It is a district with character. With more than 90 nationalities, a young population, a deep-rooted sense of community, and a cultural energy you won’t find anywhere else, children here grow up in a culturally diverse environment, navigating opportunities and vulnerabilities, and balancing strong neighborhood pride with real social pressures.
Vivell operates right in the heart of Southeast Amsterdam. Not just from an office, but in schools, youth centers, and on the streets. We know the neighborhood, the families, and the dynamics. And we know that you can only truly make a difference here if you understand what’s going on—not on paper, but on the ground. The Children’s Services team consists of 20 professionals who work daily with children from infancy through elementary school age. The drop-in playgroup for parents and children ages 0 to 4 is more than just an activity.
It is a place where parents in Southeast Amsterdam come together, where language barriers are broken down, and where trust is built. That trust isn’t built in a day. At schools and in our youth centers, we support children through activities that connect with their everyday lives. Resolving conflicts, working together, expressing yourself. These are skills that are particularly relevant in Southeast Amsterdam, because the social context here is both demanding and multifaceted. Parent engagement isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s the backbone of effective youth work in this neighborhood.
