More about this organization
The imposing building of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet on the waterfront, with boats moored in front of it under a clear blue sky.

The Dutch National Opera & Ballet is one of the largest cultural organizations in the Netherlands and is located in the heart of Amsterdam. That’s where the magic happens on stage. With over 600 colleagues from 30 different countries, we work together every day to create spectacular opera and ballet productions. Every detail counts, which is why we value craftsmanship in every part of our organization. Our mission is to enrich the lives of as many people as possible with the wonder, beauty, and meaning of opera and ballet. Would you like to contribute to this?

About the role

As a receptionist, you are the face of NO&B. In this role, you will be responsible for warmly welcoming and assisting employees and guests. Your duties will include:

  • Access Control for the Artists' Entrance & Backstage;
  • Receipt, registration, and processing of goods and mail;
  • Issuance and management of keys, access cards, and parking spaces;
  • Processing of fault reports;
  • Operation of the fire alarm system, as well as coordination and communication in the event of an emergency;
  • Can be deployed as part of the company emergency response team (CERT);
  • You will work irregular shifts, including morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

About you

  • As a receptionist, it’s important to be able to provide emergency response services, so a first aid and emergency response certification is required. Don’t have a valid certificate (yet)? We’d be happy to schedule a first aid and emergency response course for you;
  • You also have a flexible and service-oriented attitude and can handle stress well, as there’s often a lot going on at once; that’s why we expect you to be able to adapt quickly and stay calm during peak times;
  • Hospitality & Safety. In addition to welcoming employees and guests, you must also pay attention to safety and the associated systems.
  • We use a variety of automated systems, so experience with these types of systems is important. If you have an interest in this field but little experience, we’ll teach you everything you need to know.
  • For this position, we are looking for someone with excellent written and spoken proficiency in both Dutch and English, as we work with many international colleagues within our organization;
  • On-call duty is part of the job, which means you must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes. You must therefore live within this travel distance.

Are you up for the challenge of playing a supporting role within this unique artistic and international environment? Do you enjoy working evenings and weekends? And do you have an affinity for opera and ballet, or are you curious about these art forms? We encourage you to apply. Dutch National Opera & Ballet embraces diversity and inclusion. Job openings are open to everyone. If you don’t fully fit the profile, we still encourage you to apply.

What we offer

  • A temporary contract through Tentoo for a minimum period of six months, with the intention of extending it;
  • Working hours vary from week to week according to a schedule, averaging between 70 and 90 hours per four-week period;
  • The hourly wage depends on age and experience and is at least €16.42 gross per hour. This amount includes a 16% shift differential;
  • Payments are processed through Tentoo, where you can choose to be paid weekly or monthly.

Apply

Interested? Apply by September 29, 2024, at the latest, by clicking the “Apply” button on our website.

The first appointments take place in week 40 or 41.
