Would you like to help support independent journalism?
The Fund for Special Journalistic Projects (BJP) is seeking two new members for its Supervisory Board. Both new members must be working as journalists in print, audiovisual, or multimedia/online journalism.
You have a solid understanding of Dutch journalism and the developments and innovations taking place within the field. You have a clear vision of what constitutes good journalism and how the Fund can contribute to it through its activities. You also understand the substantive and procedural role of the supervisory board and what that entails for you as a potential future member.
Experience as a supervisory board member is a plus, but not a requirement. There is room for you to develop your skills in this area. You can read more about how a supervisory board operates in theCultural Governance Code.
Together with the other board members, you will oversee the quality, integrity, and direction of the BJP Fund’s mission, policies, and operations from a governance perspective. The Board serves as a sounding board and employer for the executive director who manages the BJP Fund.
There are at least five board meetings held each year at the Fund’s office in Amsterdam. If you become a member of the Journalism Quality Committee, you will attend an additional five meetings per year.
In addition to your work, you are willing and able to invest time and energy in serving on the Council.
As a member of the Supervisory Board, you will actively contribute to a fund dedicated to supporting high-quality, independent Dutch (investigative) journalism—with a special focus on individual journalists and helping them realize their own projects and meet their professional development needs.
You will be part of a large and inspiring network of journalists and Fund advisors who are committed to supporting journalism in the Netherlands. You will be invited to journalism gatherings and other events organized by the BJP Fund.
This is an unpaid position for which a volunteer stipend is available.
Are you interested in this position? If so, please send a brief cover letter and your resume tovacatures@fondsbjp.nlby May 15 at the latest, with the subject line “Supervisory Board.” The first interviews will take place on Wednesday, June 4, in Utrecht.

The BJP Fund is committed to diversity in journalism as well as within its own policies and organization. In selecting the two new members, preference will be given to candidates who enhance diversity within the Supervisory Board.
