More about this organization
Children in a classroom raise their hands; they are sitting at white desks by the window.

Are you a school board member who takes a slightly different approach and is passionate about contributing to education in Deventer? Or are you not (yet) a school board member, but do you have administrative experience and are you focused on making a social impact? Or perhaps you’re neither of those, but are you a philosopher, ecologist, anthropologist (or any other “-logist”), and are you skilled at sharing your broad perspective?

Then we're looking for you!

Zinder? Exactly, Zinder.

Zinder is the governing body responsible for the public elementary schools and Montessori schools in Deventer (eighteen in total). The board of trustees of this organization, dedicated to vibrant education, operates based on the values of curiosity, courage, and versatility, and is seeking a board member who can contribute to these values.

At Zinder, we believe in the unique contribution that every person, big and small, makes to our society. Qualities and talents reinforce one another and contribute to a better world, today and tomorrow. We offer our students a safe and engaging learning environment. A place where we learn from and with one another. A place where children learn to face the future with confidence and a strong foundation.
What applies in and around the classroom and school applies to the entire organization: we work based on trust rather than control, and with principles rather than rules. We view the dynamics created by differences between people as valuable and instructive. We want everyone in and around Zinder to feel that they are welcome here.

What do we offer?

Zinder is an innovative educational organization staffed by dedicated professionals who are deeply committed to the children of Deventer. Zinder has a director (Yvonne de Haas) and a supervisory board (Petra Hoogerwerf, Annelies Robben and Martijn Loo).

The supervisory board provides comprehensive and independent oversight of the operations of Zinder and its executive director. The supervisory board also serves as a sounding board for the management. That sounds less boring and formal than it actually is: this supervisory board likes to do things a little differently. This board believes in oversight that is in tune with the times—without compromising the legal frameworks of good governance. This supervisory board also fully supports Zinder’s values as well as its own values (curious, courageous, versatile).

The supervisory board meets five to six times a year and consults with the Joint Participation Council twice a year, but it particularly enjoys visiting all of Zinder’s schools annually and engaging in dialogue with teachers and principals during Zinder meetings.

But wait a minute—who exactly is the Zinder supervisory board looking for?

Due to the departure of one of its members, the supervisory board is looking for a new colleague—a supervisor who is passionate about providing a quality education to elementary school-aged students in Deventer.

To keep things clear, let’s just make a list:

  • You are focused on making a social impact;
  • You demonstrate an inquisitive and appreciative attitude;
  • Do you have administrative experience in a sector other than education? If so, please apply!;
  • You’ll bring your unique talents, knowledge, and skills to a group of team players who all contribute something special, but who are also focused on working together based on Zinder’s values;
  • You are a connector; an essential part of this role is seeking connections at various levels;
  • You reflect on your own actions and those of the board of supervisors as a whole;
  • You're not afraid to stray from the beaten path when necessary;
  • You are someone whose cultural and ethnic background reflects the city’s diversity, and you bring an interesting perspective to the council;
  • Your unique perspective and point of view really enrich the conversations.

Zinder, and consequently the Board of Trustees, places great importance on ensuring that the Board of Trustees is as broad and diverse as possible in terms of gender, age, cultural background, and specific areas of expertise. Given the region in which Zinder provides education and the current composition of the Board, you will have an advantage if you have ties to Deventer and the surrounding area.

Are you interested and do you think you can contribute to Zinder’s board of trustees and, in doing so, help improve education in Deventer?

We look forward to receiving your resume and cover letter by May 14, 2023, via the "Apply" button on the job listing page of the executive search firm Colourful People. Your cover letter can take whatever form best suits you and showcases your strengths—whether that’s a written explanation, a presentation, or a video—we look forward to hearing and/or seeing what you can contribute!

Do you have any questions? Please feel free to contact Ms. Melek Usta at Colourful People. She can be reached at 06-20424347 or via m.usta@colourfulpeople.nl.
