The Milieu Centraal Foundation is seeking two new members for its Supervisory Board, based in Utrecht.
The Supervisory Board safeguards the organization’s independence and social standing and serves as a strategic sparring partner for the Executive Board, which consists of two executive directors. Two members of the board will soon be stepping down in accordance with the rotation schedule. To fill these two vacancies, the board is using a single overarching profile, as it is seeking to strengthen the board in multiple areas, which do not necessarily need to be embodied in a single person. Ideally, the two new members will complement each other and, together with the current members of the SB, meet the board’s full future needs.
Key qualifications for these positions include:

The foundation helps consumers by providing practical and reliable advice on energy, mobility, consumption, and circularity. With a team of approximately eighty employees, Milieu Centraal collaborates with government agencies, businesses, and civil society organizations. Milieu Centraal is largely funded by grants from the national government.
The Supervisory Board oversees Milieu Centraal’s strategic direction (established in 2025), the achievement of its objectives, and the organization’s future-proof positioning. Board members safeguard Milieu Centraal’s independent and socially relevant role and provide a constructive yet critical input into policy decisions, risk assessments, and strategic themes. They contribute to open, collegial cooperation and critical dialogue within the board. In addition, the board serves as an ambassador outside the organization. At the request of the board, they establish connections with stakeholders within government, politics, and the business community.
The member who serves on the Compensation Committee acts as a sounding board for the Board of Directors regarding processes, structure, and the annual compensation cycle, and plays a key role in this regard as part of the Supervisory Board’s responsibilities as an employer.
For both positions, a supervisor must:
The Supervisory Board is looking for people with a collaborative and inclusive style who, with a humble attitude and a keen sense of curiosity, can contribute to thoughtful dialogue and decision-making. Diplomacy, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate conflicting interests are key qualities.
Milieu Centraal strives for a balanced composition of its supervisory board. If candidates are equally qualified, preference may be given to a female candidate in line with this objective.
The Supervisory Board meets four to five times a year in Utrecht. Additional attendance may be requested for occasional representative duties. The honorarium is €3,856 per year for a Supervisory Board member and €5,141 per year for a member who also serves on the Compensation Committee.
