More about this organization
A modern white building with a large glass facade and the words "Jan van Eyck Academy," surrounded by green trees.

We are seeking a member for the Jan van Eyck Academy’s Board of Trustees—with a background in HRM and organizational development—who is committed to ensuring the Academy’s continuity and supporting its ambitions.

The Jan van Eyck Academy

For more than 75 years, the Jan van Eyck Academy has welcomed artists, designers, curators, architects, writers, and other creative professionals for residencies in Maastricht. As a multidisciplinary post-academy, the JvE offers a highly diverse and international group of participants the time, space, and expertise to further develop their artistic practice each year. They are provided with their own studio, have access to various labs, and receive guidance from advisors and experts. The academy is both a place for research and experimentation and a venue for (public) debate and cross-pollination. Here, self-development goes hand in hand with intensive collaboration and exchange.

The Jan van Eyck is committed to exploring the role and social significance of art, design, and other creative practices in relation to the climate crisis and its impact across a wide range of areas (social, geopolitical, cultural, economic). This institutional focus fosters a broad discourse and creates a framework that encompasses a diversity of practices and a multitude of voices.

The Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board meets 4 to 6 times a year for a regular meeting. The members strive to attend as many important (public) activities of the JvE as possible. The Board serves as the supervisory body and employer of the executive directors, and acts as a sounding board, advisor, and ambassador for the organization. In addition, the Supervisory Board regularly engages with stakeholders and delves into topics relevant to the JvE. Two committees operate within the Board of Trustees: the Remuneration Committee, which handles employer-related tasks, and the Audit Committee, which prepares the financial aspects of oversight. The Board conducts an annual self-evaluation; once every three years, this evaluation is carried out under the guidance of an external facilitator.

The Supervisory Board endorses theCultural Governance Code, the Diversity & Inclusion Code, and theFair Practice Code, and strives for balance and diversity in its composition, including with regard to gender, age, and cultural background.
