More about this organization
Happy children in a colorful classroom, some holding musical instruments during an activity.

You are a modern supervisor. You give people space and trust. As a supervisor, you are at the heart of society, just like our schools; you dare to see things differently and are open to innovation.

This is Class

Klasse provides inspiring public elementary education in Gouda, Waddinxveen, Bodegraven-Reeuwijk, and Woerden. We do this by maintaining an open-minded approach toward one another and the world. Klasse has eighteen locations, including a school for special needs education (SBO) and a school for special needs education (V)SO, where approximately 450 staff members provide education to about 3,700 students. Each of our schools has its own unique character. They differ in educational approach (Jenaplan, Dalton), in focus (storytelling, performing arts), and in offerings (education for gifted and highly gifted students, education for students who speak other languages).

Every child is welcome

Public education has an important social mission and is accessible to everyone. Public education does not take a single worldview as its starting point, but embraces diversity. In this way, we teach children from an early age to respect each other’s beliefs and opinions. Our schools are microcosms of society and strive to reflect the neighborhoods in which they are located.

The Supervisory Board

Governance

The Executive Board, consisting of two members, reports to the Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board approves the budget and annual reports. It oversees the Executive Board’s policies and the general state of affairs within the organization. In addition to its supervisory role, the Supervisory Board serves as an important sounding board and advisor to the Executive Board. Furthermore, the board acts as the executive board’s employer and serves as Klasse’s ambassador to the outside world.

Procedure

The supervisory board carries out its duties and exercises its powers based on trust. The board operates on the principle of shared responsibility. All members are capable of and willing to make a collective contribution. Teamwork is essential; the individual members complement each other in terms of competencies and work together in harmony. The collaboration between the Board and the Executive Board is constructive and positively critical, and based on mutual respect. The bylaws of the Klasse Foundation and the Code of Good Governance for Primary Education serve as the guiding principles for oversight and governance.

The supervisory board consists of five members. Board members are appointed for a four-year term, after which they may be reappointed once. The board meets an average of five times a year (in the evenings). In addition, the board attends the directors’ meeting at least once a year, visits a number of schools annually, and holds annual consultations with the joint participation council. The supervisory board has three committees: the remuneration, audit, and education committees. The remuneration for members was set at €4,000 per year in 2023.

Profile

You are a modern supervisor. You give people space and trust. As a supervisor, you are at the heart of society, just like our schools; you dare to see things differently and are open to innovation. You are a valuable partner for the board and other members, and you ask the right questions based on your up-to-date knowledge of finance, human resources, and organizational development.

Given the composition of the board, the supervisory board invites candidates who contribute to the board’s diversity and inclusivity. In the event of equal qualifications, preference will be given to a woman with an immigrant background.

The following characteristics apply to all members:

  • academic and strategic level of thinking and working;
  • an affinity for and knowledge of (primary) education and the complexities of educational institutions;
  • a passion for public education;
  • knowledge and experience in the field of governance and oversight;
  • honest, independent, and impartial;
  • residing in or familiar with the area served by Stichting Klasse (Groene Hart).
