On behalf of the Carmelcollege Foundation, we are seeking a member of the Supervisory Board with expertise in business operations, with a focus on finance. This member will serve on the Audit Committee.
He or she has the ability to gain insight into the facts behind the numbers within a highly complex educational organization. He or she is then able to effectively interpret and discuss how these facts can ensure that the educational offerings meet the needs of all students, in all their diversity. In doing so, he or she embodies the motto of Carmel College: “The whole person, every person, all people.” Is outspoken, possesses a strong sense of professionalism, addresses difficult topics as well, and thrives in an informal culture.
About the Carmel College Foundation
This foundation brings together thirteen schools with over 38,000 students and more than 4,400 staff members across more than 50 secondary school locations throughout the Netherlands. The schools enjoy a high degree of autonomy and independence, but together form a united alliance of knowledge and experience in the field of secondary education. Educational decisions and the assurance of educational quality are managed at the schools themselves. The educational program aims to contribute to the humanization of the world and to guide students in their search for meaning, from multiple perspectives.
The foundation has a two-member Board of Directors.
About the Supervisory Board
The primary responsibility of the Supervisory Board is to oversee the management of the Carmelcollege Foundation and its institutions by the Executive Board. The specific duties of the Supervisory Board are set forth in the bylaws. The Board adheres to the Code of Good Educational Governance issued by the sector organization VO-Raad. The Supervisory Board also serves as the employer of the Executive Board members and conducts annual performance and evaluation interviews with them. Prior to these interviews, the Board seeks advice from the Convention of School Leaders and the GMR.
The Council currently consists of seven members.
As part of the “Samen slimmer” program, Carmel College is working at various levels to centralize its operations. Steps have already been taken in this regard with regard to HR and Procurement.
The new member of the Supervisory Board, with a background in operations management and a focus on finance:
- Is an experienced professional in the field of business operations, with a focus on finance.
- Has a broad perspective and possesses administrative/management experience in complex organizations (with a social mission).
- Is highly capable of identifying the facts behind the figures and can facilitate discussions about what these facts might mean for the diverse student population at Carmel College.
- It recognizes the challenges this entails, and that reinforces its role as a sparring partner for the Executive Board.
- Is a pleasant, capable, and assertive professional who, drawing on relevant, firsthand experience, is able to fulfill the role in a way that brings people together.
- Has sufficient seniority to effectively highlight operational issues from a financial perspective and thereby serve as a strategic advisor.
- Has a demonstrable ability to understand the perspectives of various stakeholders, including students, staff, employee representative bodies, municipalities, and the Executive Board.
- Demonstrates a commitment to social responsibility, has an affinity for education, preferably has ties to the region, and remains open to dialogue even when opinions differ.

Compensation
A member of the Supervisory Board receives an annual compensation of €11,520, including participation in a committee. This compensation is based on a time commitment of approximately 12 days per year.
