Appropriate Primary Education Noord-Kennemerland (PPO-NK) is an ambitious partnership of 14 school boards and 105 primary and special education schools in the municipalities of Alkmaar, Bergen, Dijk en Waard, and Heiloo. The organization works together with parents, municipalities, and school boards to ensure that every student has access to appropriate educational opportunities and the right support. PPO-NK strives for inclusive education and an inclusive learning environment at all schools so that all students can develop and learn in their own environment.
Our core values are: collaborative, professional, transparent, and flexible. We view appropriate education as a shared responsibility. This means we work closely with schools, school boards, parents, municipalities, and partners in the region. And we are building a strong support network in which education, care, and support go hand in hand.
PPO-NK is a foundation governed according to the Supervisory Board model. The executive director manages the operational organization, establishes the support plan and budgets, and maintains communication with all stakeholders. The Participants’ Council, in which the affiliated school boards are represented, is the legal owner and provider of (appropriate) education. The Support Plan Council (OPR) represents parents and professionals, is the moral owner of appropriate education, and has statutory approval rights regarding the support plan. The Supervisory Board acts as the employer of the executive director and oversees the implementation and fulfillment of PPO-NK’s mission.
The Supervisory Board consists of three members, including the chair, and oversees the implementation and fulfillment of PPO-NK’s mission. The Supervisory Board monitors the strategic direction, the quality of education, and the lawful and effective use of resources. In addition, the Board acts as a sounding board for the executive director and fulfills the role of employer.
As a regulator, you operate on the basis of trust, but you also have the courage to be critical when the situation calls for it. The members of the Board attend approximately ten meetings and/or consultation sessions per year and maintain active contact with stakeholders. In addition, the Board periodically reviews its own performance and invests in professional development so that it can fulfill its role as a supervisory body in a professional and forward-looking manner.
For this position, we are seeking supervisors with expertise in the field of (inclusive) education. You share the vision of PPO-NK, have a broad social perspective, are confident in your role, and know how to translate complex issues into strategic decisions. In doing so, you are able to maintain a balance between engagement and independence.
You have experience in administration or oversight and are passionate about inclusive education. You are able to provide strategic advice and act as a constructive sounding board for the executive director, while maintaining the right balance between oversight and governance. With your analytical perspective and collaborative style, you contribute to an open, forward-looking dialogue within the Board.
