SALLY is changing the world
SALLY Dance Company Maastricht produces, innovates, and presents dance for young audiences ages 4 and up. Based in Maastricht, SALLY—under the direction of Stefan Ernst and Ronald Wintjens—creates virtuoso and technically sophisticated dance performances with an international dance ensemble and top choreographers from the Netherlands and abroad. With a team of expert dance instructors and educational specialists, we develop and implement high-quality, imaginative educational and participatory activities tailored to our target audience. Everything we do—on stage, in the classroom, on TV, and in the community—resonates with the experiences of children, young people, and their families. As the only dance company in Limburg , SALLY fosters forms of interaction between the audience and dance that can further advance youth dance in Limburg and the Netherlands.
Our work is built on three pillars: SALLY Dances, SALLY Experiments, and SALLY Meets. In SALLY’s performances and activities, imagination, abstraction, and realism come together to create a unique signature style. SALLY takes its audience—children, young people, and their families—very seriously and offers them high-quality material. Equally distinctive is that all of SALLY’s performances and activities address current social issues that resonate with children (and adults).
Innovation and experimentation are deeply rooted in SALLY’s DNA. One way we express this is through the Danslab, a workshop for both the public and young choreographers. Here, we explore research questions, develop new choreographies, and create educational and participatory projects. At SALLY, participation is our top priority: young audiences and students in elementary and secondary schools are given every opportunity to discover dance in all its facets.
In addition to our work throughout the Netherlands, we are at home in Limburg, and we are proud of that. Driven by a desire to make a meaningful contribution to new generations of Limburg residents, we are setting a new goal on the horizon with the creation of a Danshuis aan de Maas. This Danshuis aan de Maas is a physical space at the heart of the community, in the center of Maastricht, with a low threshold for audiences and partners from the city as well as from all of Limburg, the Netherlands, and the Euregio. The Danshuis is not a traditional dance or production house; it is a place where SALLY sets the future in motion with audiences, partners, and creators. Our dance company creates its productions and rehearses here, young creators conduct research in the Dance Lab, and educational and participatory projects are developed and take place there. In 2025, we are working toward the realization of the Danshuis aan de Maas, as our current space is under pressure due to the redevelopment of the AINSI site.
We are looking for a member of the supervisory board who is eager to help shape SALLY’s growth starting in 2025. Our approach is based on respect for everyone’s background, customs, language, and wishes. Despite the differences that may exist, there is always one major commonality: together, we want to make the world a better place. We believe it is very important to feel connected to SALLY’s mission, which is reflected in our motto: SALLY Moves the World. Diversity and Inclusion are standard practice at SALLY. Our international dance company is a wonderful mix of cultures and diverse backgrounds, both on stage and among our staff.
SALLY’s two-member executive board and the supervisory board endorse and adhere to the eight principles set forth in the 2019 Cultural Governance Code. The Supervisory Board meets 4 to 5 times a year under the chairperson’s leadership. The Supervisory Board’s primary task is to exercise comprehensive oversight of both the implementation of the established policies by the executive directors (general and artistic directors) and the general course of affairs within the foundation. Thus, the Board’s tasks include approving the (multi-year) policy plan, annual reports, and any major interim budget amendments, as well as selecting the auditor. The Board of Supervisors also serves in an advisory capacity to the management. In addition to the formal agenda items, there is therefore room for solicited and unsolicited advice at every meeting. The Supervisory Board meets in the presence of the management and also conducts performance reviews of the directors. In addition to the meetings, the members of the Supervisory Board attend various SALLY activities several times a year, such as premieres, studio presentations, or other events. This is a vacancy for an unpaid position.
We are looking for a supervisory board member who meets at least the following criteria:
