Natuur & Milieu is seeking a new member for its supervisory board. We are looking for a supervisor who has a demonstrable affinity for the issues Natuur & Milieu addresses. Given the current composition of the supervisory board, preference will be given to a woman with an immigrant background. Supervisory experience is not required.

Profile

For this position, we are looking to hire a candidate who meets the following criteria:

  • You are actively committed to promoting a sustainable world (in the areas of energy, natural resources, mobility, or climate), for example through your work in politics (at the municipal, provincial, or national level) or as an entrepreneur.
  • You want to help achieve the mission and social objectives of Natuur & Milieu.
  • You have experience at the administrative and strategic levels, and therefore the ability to form a general assessment of the organization’s policies, strategy, and finances.
  • You are independent and principled, innovative, and bold.

The Supervisory Board strives to ensure that its membership is as broad and diverse as possible. Given the current composition of the Supervisory Board and in order to replace the departing member, female candidates—preferably those with an immigrant background—are strongly encouraged to apply.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board of Natuur & Milieu exercises comprehensive oversight of the organization’s policies and general affairs. The Board provides the director with advice, both upon request and on its own initiative. The Board’s duties and powers are set forth in the articles of incorporation and the Supervisory Board Bylaws.

The board consists of seven members and is composed in such a way that the members’ expertise, experience, and independence are sufficiently aligned with the nature of the organization’s activities. The members are active in the business community, the financial and consulting sectors, academia, and social enterprises and organizations. One of the members is appointed upon the recommendation of the Works Council.

The members of the supervisory board do not receive any financial compensation. The board meets five times a year. In addition, the board conducts an annual review of its supervisory role and assesses each year whether its composition remains appropriate in light of the organization’s development.

For more information on the current composition of the supervisory board, see the composition of the Nature & Environment team.

About Nature & Environment

Natuur & Milieu believes in a sustainable future for everyone—where people live, work, and do business without harming nature or the environment. Together with people, businesses, and governments, the organization works on sustainable solutions in the areas of food, mobility, raw materials, and energy. So that we can continue to travel and use energy, but in a clean and renewable way; eat delicious and healthy food without depleting the earth; and reuse things instead of using them up. The themes that have the greatest impact on achieving our goals are “The Netherlands climate-neutral by 2050” and “restoring biodiversity.”

The organization has a single executive director, who also serves as the foundation’s director. The director’s duties and powers are set forth in the articles of incorporation and the board regulations. In carrying out these responsibilities, the director is supported by the management team and the staff. The organization employs approximately 50 dedicated staff members for whom working at Natuur & Milieu is not just a job, but a shared mission they are committed to achieving together. Natuur & Milieu is funded by donations from individuals, governments, companies, and foundations. This amounts to approximately 6.5 million euros annually. The organization operates on a project-based basis, setting up programs in collaboration with governments, companies, and other organizations to actively drive change in favor of the climate and biodiversity. For more information about the long-term vision, results, annual reports, and similar topics, please visit the Natuur & Milieu website.

Procedure

Natuur & Milieu is being assisted in this recruitment and selection process by the executive search firm Colourful People. Colourful People will handle the recruitment and pre-screening of candidates based on the applications received. Suitable candidates will be presented to the Appointments Advisory Committee, which will then select candidates and invite them for an interview.
