MeerWaarde Foundation – Hoofddorp

MeerWaarde plays a key role in social work in Haarlemmermeer. Our professionals stand alongside residents—in neighborhoods, communities, and villages—to work together toward building a strong, inclusive society. We promote self-reliance, take a preventive approach, connect residents and organizations, and raise the profile and professionalism of social work.

We are an organization on the move. In recent years, we have built a future-proof structure centered on specialized departments, enhanced quality, and digitalization. In addition, we work closely with our partners in the so-called G6: Maatvast, Cpunt, Mantelzorg & Meer, MEE, and Team Sportservice. The next phase requires vision, collaboration, and the ability to provide strategic leadership in a changing social sector.

We are seeking a member for the Supervisory Board who has expertise in the social sector and/or social work and who can contribute strategic insights regarding the social challenges and collaboration that MeerWaarde stands for.

The assignment

The Supervisory Board is addressing key issues concerning the future of social work in Haarlemmermeer:

  • strengthening cooperation within the social sector and the potential shift toward broader regional partnerships;
  • the growing attention being paid to social work by policymakers and other sectors, in part as a way to alleviate the strain on the healthcare system
  • ensuring quality, innovation, and prevention in times of scarcity and changing funding;
  • guiding the organization's development toward more collaborative and community-focused approaches;
  • and ensuring financial sustainability in a context of increasingly sporadic funding and dependence on the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.

The Board aims not only to oversee, but also to inspire, provide guidance, and offer feedback—in close collaboration with the director and within the social context of MeerWaarde.

The Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board consists of five members and serves as the employer, supervisor, and sounding board for the Executive Director. The Board fosters a collegial and positive culture, with committed and experienced members who hold each other accountable for substance, collaboration, and results. The Supervisory Board meets at least six times a year in full session with the Executive Director. The Board works with three different committees: the Audit Committee, the Compensation Committee, and the Quality Committee.

The Supervisory Board’s core values are aligned with the organization’s core values and with the board’s responsibilities and authorities:

  • Committed to MeerWaarde’s social mission
  • Accessible, Visible, and Approachable
  • Independent: The Supervisory Board maintains its independence and remains impartial toward all parties
  • Trust: The Supervisory Board acts on the basis of trust in the organization’s management and governance
  • Collegial: The Supervisory Board as a whole is responsible for fulfilling its supervisory roles. Decisions are made collectively and may be prepared by committees (such as the Compensation Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Quality Committee).
  • Transparent: The Supervisory Board is transparent in its words, writing, and actions

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a member who understands the social sector and can contribute strategic insights on the future of social work in Haarlemmermeer and the role of Meerwaarde in that context. This can be approached from various perspectives or backgrounds:

  • a current or former director or manager in the social sector, social work, or a related social sector;
  • someone from the academic or policy community, with expertise in social policy, governance, or the development of social work;
  • or someone from the public sector (such as a former alderman or senior policy advisor) with experience in collaboration between municipalities, healthcare, and social services.

In addition, you have access to:

  • strategic insight and an understanding of organizational dynamics;
  • the ability to engage in constructive dialogue and provide feedback with tact, insight, and humor;
  • a collaborative, reflective style that encourages dialogue and cooperation;
  • independence, social engagement, and diversity awareness;
  • Preferably supervisory experience, but candidates with management experience are also welcome.

What do we offer?

A meaningful role in an organization that makes a visible difference in the daily lives of Haarlemmermeer residents. You will work alongside a dedicated executive and a supportive Board of Supervisors on issues that matter: from collaboration in the social sector to embedding prevention and community building.

The compensation amounts to €4,500 per year and is adjusted annually for inflation.

The Board meets at least six times a year; there is also an opening on the Compensation and Quality Committee, and members are welcome to join.
