Due to the resignation of a member, the Supervisory Board of the Rotterdam Center for Cultural Education (KCR) has an open position.

The new member of the Supervisory Board is a refreshing, dedicated individual with recent professional experience in Rotterdam’s arts and culture sector and an extensive network within this field.

The Supervisory Board serves as a sounding board for the Executive Board. For this role, KCR is seeking a motivated, communicative individual with management experience, strategic and analytical thinking skills, integrity, and strong communication skills.

It is an advantage:

  • if you have experience at the executive or board level within nonprofit organizations or the private sector.
  • have experience in cultural education and/or are familiar with community-based work.
  • or have experience in Rotterdam’s political and administrative sphere.

Rotterdam Center for Cultural Education (KCR)

Every day, KCR is committed to providing meaningful cultural education in Rotterdam’s schools. We do this on behalf of the City of Rotterdam, guided by the shared belief that cultural education makes a difference in the lives of children and young people. We believe that cultural education broadens their horizons and helps them grow—not only now, but especially later, when they are adults living in a world we cannot yet imagine.

We focus on three core tasks that are closely interlinked: connecting, safeguarding, and sharing knowledge. To embed cultural education in the curriculum, strong, sustainable relationships between the education and cultural sectors are essential. KCR’s intermediary role is crucial in this regard. Over the years, KCR has developed a wide range of activities to reach our target groups. These will be continued, refined, and further developed during the 2025–2028 period.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board consists of five members and the chairperson. KCR operates under a Supervisory Board model, in accordance with the Cultural Governance Code. It oversees the general course of business and the management’s policies.

In addition, the Supervisory Board provides the management with advice, both when requested and on its own initiative. The members ensure that KCR complies with the rules of the Cultural Governance Code.

Members of the Supervisory Board receive an honorarium of up to €1,000 per year. The following characteristics are important for the entire Supervisory Board:

  • A modern regulator’s approach: open, constructively critical, strategic, and proactive.
  • An interest in art, culture, and education.
  • Social experience and engagement.
  • Administrative experience, or an understanding of and feel for administrative dynamics.

The Supervisory Board meets approximately 5 to 6 times a year in a pleasant, collegial atmosphere—in the early evening. From time to time, there are also professional development sessions, and as a member of the Supervisory Board, you will serve on the Personnel, Policy, and Quality Committee, where some meetings are held via Teams. In addition, members of the Board are regularly invited to KCR events.

The Supervisory Board aims to reflect Rotterdam’s superdiversity in its membership. We invite all candidates who identify with this profile to apply.
