Due to the expiration of Professor Patricia Pisters’ term, the Film Fund is seeking a new member for its Supervisory Board. The vacancy that has now opened is for the media and film studies portfolio. We are looking for someone with a strategic approach to work and thinking, as well as academic experience in the media and film industry.

The organization: the Netherlands Film Fund

The Netherlands Film Fund is the leading cultural fund for Dutch film. The Film Fund focuses on the professional, independent film sector and provides financial support for the development, production, and distribution of film projects in a wide variety of formats, ranging from new talent to highly experienced filmmakers. In addition, the Fund supports film-related activities such as festivals, film gatherings, film education hubs, research, and training. Both nationally and internationally, the Fund operates in a dynamic, rapidly changing landscape.

The Film Fund’s mission remains as significant and challenging as ever. The media landscape is global, complex, and rapidly evolving. The coronavirus has hit the film industry hard, while streaming services are experiencing tremendous growth. All these developments place high demands on the resilience and agility of the sector, the Film Fund, and its strategic partners. Quality and ambition remain the Film Fund’s guiding principles in these turbulent times.

In recent years, the Film Fund’s scope of responsibilities and budget have expanded; at the same time, the size of the organization and the complexity of its operations have increased. The current policy plan (2021–2024) guides the implementation of activities in both regulatory and organizational contexts. In the coming years, topics such as talent development, diversity and inclusion, regional distribution, and making the film sector more sustainable will be high on the agenda. Preparations for the new policy period after 2024 will begin during the requested term of office.

The Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board exercises oversight independently of the Executive Board and the Minister. The Supervisory Board has an internal oversight function and focuses on the Executive Board’s policies and the general state of affairs within the Film Fund. The Supervisory Board consists of seven members and has three committees: the Audit Committee, the HR Committee, and the Business Committee. The term of office for members is four years, with the possibility of a single reappointment for four years. The Chair and members of the Supervisory Board are appointed by the Minister of Education, Culture, and Science upon the recommendation of the Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board and the Board of Directors adhere to the Code of Governance Culture in their work. The Board of Trustees meets four times a year. Members receive an attendance allowance and reimbursement for travel expenses.

What are we looking for?

The Film Fund places great value on a Board of Trustees that performs its duties with a critical eye and integrity, maintains an independent stance, and is diverse in terms of age, background, professional experience, and gender. Candidates who can contribute to these goals are warmly invited to apply.

Candidates should fit the following profile:

  • Academic level of work and thinking.
  • An affinity for the film, audiovisual, and/or cultural sectors.
  • Independent, constructive, and free from any (appearance of) conflicts of interest and/or positions.
  • Preferably experience in administrative or supervisory roles.
  • Sufficient time available to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees.
  • Integrity, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Procedure and schedule:

You may apply by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 21, by emailing your resume and a brief cover letter (preferably in PDF format) to: vacature@filmfonds.nl, with the subject line “Application for the Supervisory Board.” Interviews will take place during the first two weeks of December 2022.

You can find more information about the Board of Trustees here. For more information about this vacancy, please contact the Board’s secretary, Patricia Pattynama, at 020-2379892 or p.pattynama@filmfonds.nl
