Exodus Netherlands Foundation (Exodus) is a national organization that provides shelter and support to former inmates and their family members through both inpatient and outpatient care. We work with 300 professionals and 1,200 volunteers in various locations across the Netherlands. Exodus operates on the belief that people are human beings who thrive through connection with others.
Exodus’s mission is to contribute to a safe and caring society in which people can build meaningful lives and create new opportunities. Jan Eerbeek, a retired prison chaplain, is the founder of Exodus; for the history of the organization’s origins, please see how it all began.
Exodus is driven by a desire to offer people hope, with courage, community, perseverance, and mutual support playing a key role. These are universal values that form a crucial foundation for our approach and thus contribute to Exodus’s objectives.
Exodus achieves its goals by:
Exodus has a single-member Board of Directors (BoD), supported by and working in collaboration with a management team consisting of two Care Managers and an Operations Manager. The Board of Directors is responsible for Exodus and, consequently, for the vision, strategy, policy, and the (financial) frameworks within which Exodus operates. It promotes the Exodus culture, standards, and values and is acutely aware of its role as a role model. The Board of Directors is accountable to the Supervisory Board.
Exodus has a Board of Trustees that currently consists of six members. The Board of Trustees acts as the employer to the Executive Board and ensures that the Executive Board manages Exodus effectively and efficiently while providing the highest possible quality of care. It also serves as a sounding board and provides advice to the Executive Board on strategic decisions.
The Supervisory Board has established a number of its own committees, such as the Audit Committee and the Compensation Committee. The Quality & Safety Committee will be added to this list shortly. In addition to attending the regular meetings of the Board of Trustees and the aforementioned committees of the Board, consultations are held with the employee participation bodies, and contact is maintained in various ways with Exodus’s internal organization, as well as with the external environment in which Exodus operates.
Two vacancies will open up on the Board of Trustees in the course of 2023: one for a member who is the prospective chair of the Audit Committee, and one for a prospective member of the Quality & Safety Committee. Once the two new members have been appointed, the Board of Trustees will ultimately consist of five members.
The profile requirements for members of the Supervisory Board can be divided into, on the one hand, general principles that the Supervisory Board as a team must meet and, on the other hand, specific qualities that individual members of the Supervisory Board bring to the table. Each member shares responsibility for the whole and considers the big picture. The members of the Board of Trustees are collegial and collectively responsible and must be able to oversee all aspects of the organization.
The following profile applies to all members of the Board of Trustees:
Specific job requirements for the prospective chair of the audit committee:
