Member of the Supervisory Board

Drachten | Smallingerland Library employs about 30 staff members and 140 volunteers who do much more than just lend out books. Our goal is to help everyone become self-reliant and to support them in that process. Our library is a place for and by the community. All kinds of library users, young and old, are welcome here. This is reflected in our courses and consultation hours focused on language and digital skills, in our close collaboration with the education sector, and in our social and educational activities. Hereyou can read more about our library’s evolution into an educational and social Mienskip Library, Community Library. 

To ensure the best possible management of all our activities, our organization is structured around the following areas: Traditional Library, Youth and Education, Lifelong Learning, and Culture: Programming & Activities. Operations and Marketing & Communications serve as supporting functions. Our Board of Trustees has a monitoring and supervisory role and also serves as a discussion partner and sounding board for the Executive Director. The Board of Trustees meets at least four times a year, based on the planning & control cycle and the annual financial statements. In addition, the Supervisory Board maintains contact with the Employee Representative Committee (ERC), the managers of the departments, and other staff members, and is regularly present at the library during internal and external meetings.  

Due to the departure of one of our members, we are looking for a new member to join our Board of Supervisors.

What do you bring to the table?

• Knowledge and experience in the field of Youth and Education; an affinity for the library sector, preferably with work or management experience in that field
• Relevant network
• Enthusiasm and a commitment to social causes
• HBO+ or university-level work and thinking
• General financial knowledge
• Regulatory experience is a plus
• Enough time for meetings and library activities (about 4 hours per month)
