Member of the Supervisory Board

We are seeking a member of the Supervisory Board with a portfolio in facilities/social real estate for the Almeerse Scholen Groep, one of the largest school boards in primary education in the Netherlands

The Almeerse Scholen Groep (ASG) is committed to providing high-quality, modern education for every child between the ages of 4 and 18. ASG’s mission is “Shaping quality education together.” By sharing knowledge, experience, and ideas, we work together to provide a quality education. Every student is different, learns differently, and develops in their own way. Every student can earn the diploma that matches his or her talents. The Almeerse Scholen Groep educates nearly 20,000 students across 40 elementary schools and 8 secondary schools. Approximately 2,300 employees work at ASG, making it the largest employer in Flevoland. The organization has a turnover of over €200 million.

Our goals for 2023–2026

The multi-year strategic policy plan (Koers 26) is based on three pillars: Leadership, Innovation, and Sustainability. These three pillars define how we address opportunities and urgent challenges and how we act in response. They help us, the education sector, and the world around us to grow and develop. Building tomorrow’s education together—that is Koers 26. To achieve this, we are focusing on three key ambitions. Through these ambitions, we demonstrate how we will seize opportunities and address urgent challenges during the 2023–2026 period:

  • Goal 1: Growing through collaboration
  • Goal 2: Developing for the present and the future
  • Goal 3: Organizing and designing education in a flexible manner

For more information about Course 26, please refer to the course documenton the Almeerse Scholen Groep website.

Profile requirements for a member of the Supervisory Board (housing/social real estate portfolio):

In the coming years, ASG will be facing complex housing challenges in Almere. Within ASG’s housing department, investments are being made in the necessary expertise and further development in areas such as the preparation of policy-driven multi-year maintenance plans, project management for new construction, renovations, and major maintenance of our schools, multi-year investment and operating budgets, and long-term liquidity and financing plans.

Given the complexity and urgency of the housing issue facing our schools in Almere, it is important to bring expertise in the field of housing and social real estate to the Board of Trustees. For this reason, the Board of Trustees has decided to recruit a seventh member for a four-year term who has experience in the field of (educational) housing and social real estate.

For this position, we are looking for someone who:

  • has expertise in innovative construction and renovation, sustainability, and developments and innovations in the construction of (school) buildings or community-based real estate;
  • has financial expertise gained through education and experience, and is accustomed to working with budgeting systems, multi-year maintenance plans, and periodic reporting;
  • has experience with risk control and risk management;
  • has extensive expertise in the maintenance, renovation, and development of housing and social real estate;
  • has a deep understanding of and an extensive network within the relevant real estate market and collaborates with relevant stakeholders;
  • has expertise in policy development and the further development of the strategic housing/new construction organization within ASG;
  • has a thorough understanding of the funding issues and dilemmas surrounding (educational) facilities and is able to translate current developments into strategic policy;
  • has the ability to analyze figures in housing files and scenarios;
  • understands and demonstrates an interest in the context and impact of housing for our students and staff.

Diversity of the Supervisory Board

In addition to the aforementioned profile characteristics, the Supervisory Board seeks to ensure a good mix of members with proven administrative experience and specific expertise. In general, members are responsible for the organization as a whole (generalists), possess a keen sense of social responsibility, and have a strong moral compass. In addition, the Supervisory Board strives for a diverse composition of the Supervisory Board as a whole (gender balance, age, background). In light of the need for a balanced composition of the Supervisory Board, preference for this vacancy is given to a woman, and it is an advantage if candidates have a cultural background other than Dutch.
