Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and ending child exploitation, and by empowering children to have their voices heard. Terre des Hommes focuses on ending (online) sexual exploitation of children and child labor, including in crisis situations. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes develops and implements projects and programs through local partners, primarily in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Terre des Hommes Netherlands is entering a new phase. Following a reorganization, the organization is now led by a single CEO, and its governance and management structure has been streamlined. The Engagement Department—which brings together fundraising, communications, retail, and volunteer services—has recently been restructured.
Whereas these components previously operated largely in parallel, the focus in the coming years will be on strengthening cohesion, formulating a clear strategic direction, and building a future-proof resource mobilization strategy. This goes beyond mere optimization: it requires direction, positioning, and sustainable growth in a changing fundraising market. For this task, we are seeking an Engagement Director who, together with the team, can effectively combine vision and execution, both internally and externally.
As Director of Engagement, you are a member of the Senior Leadership Team and report directly to the CEO. You lead several managers and, indirectly, a large team of professionals and volunteers.
You will develop and implement an integrated strategy for fundraising, communications, retail, and public engagement. You will ensure focus and prioritization, foster cohesion within the department, and build a clear positioning for Terre des Hommes as a visible and trustworthy children’s rights organization. In the first year, the focus will be on creating cohesion within the team, formulating a consistent course for resource mobilization, and strengthening strategic choices in revenue development and brand positioning. You know how to connect teams, empower professionals, and at the same time provide clear direction. Externally, you will serve as the public face of the organization toward donors, partners, and networks. Internally, you will work closely with the Impact and Operations departments to ensure that the mission, programs, and revenue strategy reinforce one another.
You are a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will strengthen the synergy within the team by linking impact, positioning, and resource mobilization. In this role, you will help shape a balanced strategic direction in which our social mission, visibility, and sustainable growth reinforce one another.
We are looking for a strategic leader with a proven track record in a mission-driven or social context. You have experience leading larger teams through managers, know how to guide change, and combine entrepreneurial spirit with administrative acumen. You understand how social impact translates into a compelling engagement strategy and are able to build lasting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You communicate effectively in both Dutch and English.
We are offering a key position within a growing international children’s rights organization. The position is classified in pay grade 14 (€5,452.20 – €7,399.80 gross per month for a full-time 36-hour workweek), depending on experience. We operate on a hybrid model (50% in-office, 50% remote) and are based in The Hague.
