About Imagine IC

Imagine IC is a pioneer in fostering conversations about heritage, located in the heart of Amsterdam Zuidoost. We are a hybrid of an archive and a museum, and we operate out of the space we share with the Amsterdam Bijlmerplein Public Library. Here, we create a vibrant gathering place for dialogue, reflection, and connection.

Our mission

Imagine IC is committed to a society in which everyone participates as equals. To a city where every voice counts. To bring this vision to life, we strive for a heritage democracy: a broad and diverse perspective on heritage and what we, as a society, consider important to preserve for Amsterdam and the Netherlands.

When people think of heritage, they often think of stately buildings and old paintings. We take a much broader view: heritage is also a family recipe, stories about street soccer in your neighborhood, or memories of the Bijlmer plane crash. We work from the ground up, together with residents and our diverse network. Imagine IC is an open space where every voice counts and everyone can contribute ideas about our heritage. With a small but dedicated team, we work every day to connect diverse networks through heritage dialogues.

About Our Board

The board of the Imagine IC Foundation plays a crucial role in guiding our organization toward its next phase of growth and impact. The board is collectively responsible for setting the strategic direction, overseeing financial health, and safeguarding Imagine IC’s social mission. In addition, the board serves as a sounding board for the executive team and provides both solicited and unsolicited advice, whether or not related to immediate issues. Personal commitment, professional detachment, firmness, and accessibility go hand in hand in this regard.

The board consists of seven members, each with their own portfolio, and strives for diversity in terms of gender, age, and background. Imagine IC adheres to the Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Diversity and Inclusion Code.

Would you like to join our board?

We are looking for candidates who share our vision and are committed to our community, Amsterdam Zuidoost. As a board member of Imagine IC, you will contribute to addressing important social issues in Amsterdam Zuidoost and beyond. You are already familiar with the role of a board member and related governance practices, or you are willing to develop professionally in this area. You are characterized by strategic insight, a collaborative spirit, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Experience with an innovative funding mix in the cultural sector is definitely a plus.

Specifically regarding the role of secretary:

• You will work closely with the chair and the director to draft the agenda, follow up on (strategic) action items, monitor the annual calendar, and prepare recurring documents such as the annual report and the budget.
  
• You actively contribute ideas and advise the board and the chair based on your insight and experience. You consider issues within the context of structure, responsibilities, and continuity, with a focus on collaborative decision-making.
  
• You identify and articulate different interests during discussions, thereby contributing to well-considered and widely supported decisions.
  

Your time commitment

The role of board member-secretary requires an average of 6–8 hours per month (this depends heavily on the schedule). In addition, we hold six in-person meetings per year at the Imagine IC location in Zuidoost. Board members serve as visible representatives of Imagine IC and attend openings and events as often as possible.
