As a board member of Discriminatie.nl Amsterdam Region, you will play a crucial role in developing strategies and overseeing our organization. You will work closely with the executive board and contribute to our mission to combat discrimination and promote equal opportunities in the Amsterdam region.

Discriminatie.nl Foundation, Amsterdam Region

Discriminatie.nl Amsterdam Region is an independent foundation and regional anti-discrimination body (ADV) dedicated to combating and preventing discrimination. We carry out these tasks on behalf of all municipalities in the region and in collaboration with local and national organizations working in the field of equal treatment and anti-discrimination. We do this through:

  1. complaint handling;
  2. information and advice;
  3. conducting research;
  4. prevention and education.

Discriminatie.nl Amsterdam Region offers an independent, accessible service that is open to everyone in the Amsterdam region. We handle complaints under equal treatment laws, mediate disputes, and seek lasting solutions. We also maintain records to highlight the nature and scope of discrimination and, for example, provide local and regional governments with information to inform policy-making. In addition, we conduct research, provide advice and training, offer public education, and collaborate with partners.

Discriminatie.nl Amsterdam Region is a subsidized organization that carries out its statutory duties under the Municipal Anti-Discrimination Provisions Act on behalf of the municipalities of Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Amsterdam, Diemen, Ouder-Amstel, Uithoorn, and Weesp.

  2. solicited and unsolicited advice to management;
  3. overall administrative responsibility for the organization, including finances.

Desired profile

As a board member, you play a crucial role in developing strategies and overseeing our activities. You serve as a sounding board for the executive board and provide high-level input on policy and strategic issues. Integrity, responsibility, and independence are essential for this role, along with sufficient availability, energy, and flexibility to ensure the position is fulfilled effectively.

Key job requirements:

  1. Academic level of work and thinking, with proven administrative and supervisory experience.
  2. Knowledge of the legal framework for combating discrimination, equal treatment laws, and preferably also relevant legal aspects pertaining to nonprofit organizations.
  3. An affinity for the social sector, diversity, and inclusion, with a particular focus on effectively addressing discrimination.
  4. Possession of a relevant network and a commitment to social engagement.
  5. Ability to perform supervisory and advisory roles as part of a team, with an understanding of administrative and social dynamics.

If you share our mission and meet these job requirements, we encourage you to apply. We strive to ensure that our board is diverse and reflects the population of the Amsterdam region.

Leisure activities

There are typically six scheduled board meetings per year, in addition to any special thematic meetings and the meeting with the employee representatives (once a year). The agenda for board meetings is prepared by the board chair in consultation with the director. Board members are generally appointed for a term of three years; they may be reappointed for a maximum of one additional three-year term. The position is unpaid.
