Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a Video Producer and Editor/Development Partner Manager who is creative, solution-oriented, and hardworking to help raise the profile of our partnerships with institutional funders in Europe, including the Novamedia/Postcode Lottery Group.

The role involves producing and editing social media content and proactively identifying communication opportunities. The Video Producer and Editor/Development Partner Manager will serve as the point of contact and lead for interactions with key external stakeholders, ensuring that communication activities enable partnerships to achieve their goals. The successful candidate will work closely with HRW’s Media and Development Departments to foster a culture of collaboration and innovation with our partners.

This one-year, full-time position will ideally be based in one of HRW’s major offices in Europe, such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, London, or Stockholm, and will report to the Multimedia Director based in New York.

Key responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement communications strategies and activities that maximize the impact of our work on the issues that are central to our funding partnerships;
  2. Produce and edit videos that highlight our partnerships and promote HRW’s work in a clear and compelling way to reach a wide audience;
  3. Monitor and identify opportunities within Human Rights Watch to carry out communications activities, such as press releases, videos, photos, campaigns, social media posts, and other relevant content, in order to engage a broad audience on human rights issues;
  4. Adapt multimedia products to different languages to expand the reach of HRW content and raise the profile of our partnerships;
  5. Develop, research, storyboard, produce, and edit video and animated multimedia content that will advance HRW’s objectives;
  6. Make complex ideas simple and engaging through effective writing skills and visually compelling video content, ensuring that HRW’s editorial standards are met and adhering to the highest journalistic practices;
  7. Collaborate with HRW’s Media and Development departments to develop multimedia communications plans;
  8. Manage and prioritize multiple projects, paying close attention to every detail in both creative production and project management;
  9. Deliver outputs in a timely manner and ensure they align with the Media Department’s agreed strategy and priorities;
  10. Actively seek to incorporate values and initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion into multimedia, including collaborating with global partners and consultants;
  11. Manage content distribution, logging, archiving footage, and other tasks related to production;
  12. Attend events and meetings related to donor communications; and
  13. Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Multimedia, Marketing, Visual Arts, or a related field is highly desirable. Candidates with equivalent training or experience and a passion for journalism and/or human rights work are also encouraged to apply.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in broadcast journalism, video production, communications, marketing, or a similar field is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge

  1. Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English are required; proficiency in another language, such as Dutch, German, or Swedish, is preferred. The ability to work effectively in multiple languages is required.
  2. Experience producing sizzle reels and promotional videos is highly desirable. A proven track record in conceptualizing, creating, and posting content on social media that resonates with a wide audience is required.
  3. A proven track record in developing and coordinating communications activities involving multiple stakeholders is required.
  4. Excellent storytelling and editing skills are required.
  5. Creativity and the ability to quickly identify and develop a shareable story are required.
  6. Candidates must demonstrate tact, discretion, sound editorial judgment, and the ability to handle confidential information.
  7. Knowledge of leading graphic, audio, and video tools, including Adobe Suite and Premiere Pro, and working knowledge of Mac OS are required; proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects is preferred.
  8. The ability to demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning in the field of communications is required.
  9. Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining a strong attention to detail are required.
  10. Excellent project management skills—from definition and design through delivery and evaluation—are required. The ability to juggle multiple projects while also managing long-term initiatives, work under pressure, and thrive in a deadline-driven environment is required.
  11. Strong interpersonal skills are required to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external media partners.
  12. The ability to respond quickly to events as they occur and produce high-quality written material under tight deadlines is required.
  13. Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, creative problem-solving abilities, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are required.
