Do you enjoy coordinating processes and being closely involved in the publishing process? Are you detail-oriented and able to keep track of everything easily? If so, this position at Boom Juridisch might be just right for you.

What will you be doing as a publishing assistant?

As a publishing assistant, you ensure that the publishing process runs smoothly. You provide administrative support to publishers on their publishing projects: you draft author contracts, manage these contracts, keep track of production schedules, and coordinate the review of royalty statements. You ensure effective inventory management and, where necessary, initiate reprints. You maintain contact with authors and external editorial teams. You intuitively sense what support publishers need and respond accordingly. If you see opportunities for improvement, you discuss them with colleagues. After consultation, you implement the improvements.

Where and with whom will you be working?

Your team will be the Boom Juridisch publishing team in The Hague. You’ll work closely with publishers, editors, marketers, internal sales staff, and account managers. You’ll also collaborate frequently with colleagues from the (digital) production and (financial) administration departments in Meppel. We believe it’s important for everyone to be themselves and feel valued. Diverse backgrounds and perspectives make our team stronger and our products better.

At Boom, we love curious people. People who want to learn. We believe it’s important for everyone to be themselves and feel seen. Diverse backgrounds and perspectives make our team stronger and our products better. At Boom Juridisch, we publish high-quality literature in the fields of law, criminology, and public administration for students, scholars, and professionals. From textbooks to handbooks, and from e-books to online databases. And, of course, journals.

What do we offer?

  • A varied position offering 24–32 hours per week, with plenty of freedom and autonomy. Fewer hours are also negotiable.
  • A good work-life balance, in part because you can work from home on a flexible basis.
  • A salary in pay scale V of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Publishing Industry (€2,500–€3,000 based on a 36-hour workweek and depending on your experience). 5 weeks of vacation, travel allowance, pension plan, and profit-sharing plan.
  • The Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Publishing Industry, supplemented by our own attractive benefits. These include a Flexible Spending Account, which you can use, for example, to take extra time off or to pay for training.
  • Unlimited access to training courses via Skilltown (more than 800 soft skills and subject-specific courses).
  • Access for you and your family to OpenUp (online support for mental health challenges).
  • Your own laptop so you can do your job to the best of your ability.

What do you bring to the table?

We are looking for a colleague who is committed to producing high-quality publications. You view the world with a positive outlook and see opportunities rather than problems. You are skilled at planning and setting priorities, so deadlines don’t faze you. With your strong social and communication skills, you have no trouble getting others on board. In addition, we ask that you:

  • are proficient in using Word, Excel, and other Office programs; experience with ERP and CRM systems is a plus;
  • have a college-level education and way of thinking, gained through education and/or relevant work experience (a legal background is not required);
  • works in an organized manner and enjoys taking care of things for others.
