We are seeking two members for the Supervisory Board of a highly dynamic and ambitious cultural foundation, the Textile Museum—part of the Mommerskwartier Foundation—who are willing to use their expertise to contribute to the organization’s strategic growth.
The TextielMuseum in Tilburg is more than just a museum; it is a dynamic center where the past, present, and future of textiles come together. In the innovative TextielLab, national and international designers, artists, and promising students collaborate with textile experts to explore the endless possibilities of textiles. This international, creative environment is housed in a former textile factory and is part of the Mommerskwartier Foundation.
The Mommerskwartier Foundation employs approximately 270 staff members across two offices in Tilburg. Its ambitions are ambitious:
The TextielMuseum plays a central role within the MuseumKwartier in Tilburg, a green space where visitors, artists, and entrepreneurs can come together. Thestrategic plan, “TextielMuseum of the Future,” aims to transform the museum into a leading international textile institute. The Textile Campus and surrounding locations are being transformed into a vibrant Textile Cluster—an ecosystem where education, startups, art, culture, and the business community reinforce one another.
A key component of these plans is the renovation and sustainability upgrade of the municipal building that houses the museum. This renovation will create space for the museum to become a so-called “third place”—a place where people can spend time and participate in free programs without an admission ticket. This will create a“home away from home”for various target groups, from young people to seniors and from professionals to hobbyists. With the expansion of exhibition spaces and the TextielLab, the museum aims to attract 100,000 visitors annually and increase its impact on the local economy and Tilburg’s cultural standing.
On May 27, 2024, the city council unanimously approved the continuation of preparations for this transformation.
We are seeking two members for the Supervisory Board of this dynamic and ambitious organization who are willing to use their expertise to contribute to the foundation’s strategic growth.
The Supervisory Board of the Mommerskwartier Foundation consists of an active, loyal, and professional team of seven individuals. They operate in accordance with the Cultural Governance Code, the Diversity Code, and the Fair Practice Code. The board oversees the development and implementation of strategy, the organization, and its performance, and serves as a sounding board for the executive board. In addition, the board monitors risks, external developments, relationships with stakeholders, and the foundation’s external reputation. Each member of the Supervisory Board brings their own area of expertise to the table. Due to the departure of two members, we are seeking a member with a background in finance and construction.
For the position of the member with the financial profile, who is also a member of the Audit & Risk Committee, we are seeking a professional with a strong background in financial reporting, audit processes, and risk management, preferably within the nonprofit or cultural sector. This member will oversee the organization’s financial statements, budget, and risk management. Experience with compliance and governance, such as the Cultural Governance Code, is essential. You are critical and analytical and capable of independently overseeing the organization’s financial health. In addition, you will serve as a sounding board for the executive board and contribute to important financial decisions.
For the member with a construction background, who is also a member of the Construction Committee, we are seeking an experienced professional with expertise in procurement, construction projects, and property management. You will be responsible for overseeing the foundation’s construction projects, with a focus on sustainability and innovation. Experience with complex construction processes is essential, as is a strong network in the construction sector and, preferably, in politics within the Tilburg region. This network can help ensure the smooth execution of the foundation’s construction projects. You have a hands-on mentality and actively contribute to the successful implementation of these strategic ambitions.
For both positions, we are seeking candidates with an affinity for heritage, the cultural sector, and textiles, who are up to date on current developments. You will critically and constructively oversee the formulation and implementation of the strategic goals of the Mommerskwartier Foundation. Integrity, independence, and a commitment to developments in the region are key qualities for both roles. You have a refreshing personality and are willing to actively use your knowledge and network for the TextielMuseum and the institutions affiliated with the foundation. We prefer candidates who are active at the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, and heritage.
An appointment as a member of the Supervisory Board for a term of three years, with the possibility of two three-year extensions, for a maximum of nine years. Members of the Supervisory Board receive compensation.
