Position

Education plays a key role at Utrecht University. High-quality instruction is provided by highly qualified faculty members, who are empowered to develop and innovate their teaching. The Departmentof Social Sciences,Division of Interdisciplinary Social Science (ISW), within the Faculty of Social Sciences, has openings for two versatile faculty members. 

We are seeking faculty members for a four-year term, with opportunities for professional development and training, including, at a minimum, the completion of theBasic Teaching Qualification (BKO). The position is a full-time teaching role. The core responsibility will be to teach in the Dutch-language bachelor’s program inInterdisciplinary Social Sciences and, if possible, in the English-language master’s programs inSocial Policy and Public Health, andYouth Studies.

The teaching duties of the instructors will primarily consist of leading seminars for various courses offered by the ISW department, grading assignments and exams, and supervising bachelor’s students as they write their final theses. In addition, the new lecturers will play a key role in modernizing ISW education (including the increased use of ICT in teaching, such as digital testing and assessment, and “blended learning”). As a faculty member, you will be allocated 10% development time, intended for obtaining the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) and other activities that enhance your prospects for career advancement.

Some flexibility is required for this position, as classes and/or exams are held after 5:00 p.m.

Profile

We are looking for candidates who:

• have completed a master’s degree in one of the social sciences;
• have experience teaching and mentoring students at the academic level;
• be proficient in English atthe C1 level;
• be motivated to acquire new knowledge;
• be flexible and efficient and able to work as part of a team;
• have strong social and organizational skills.

Offer

We are offering a temporary position (0.7 FTE) for a period of 4 years starting in September 2023. The salary—depending on education and experience—ranges from a minimum of €2,960 to a maximum of €4,670 (scale 10 of the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities) gross per month for full-time employment. You will also receive 8% vacation pay and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
